Thunder snow!
 

Growing up in grey and damp (OK, Oct-Jan) west Michigan I wouldn't have ever thought I'd get sick of sunshine, but 25y of 300+ days of it here in the NM mountains gets kind of old.

Finally we're getting some autumn action on and I'm looking out to the deck, watching the snow fall and listening to the thunder bounce off of the canyons.

Seasons are awesome! And now the sun is out, it's still thundering/snowing and welcome to New Mexico...

We have sunny and 75 here today.
Weird weather this year.

partly cloudy, bright, 84º, and kind of muggy because we've gotten some rain (FINALLY!).

Sounds interesting. New Mexico is on our short list of retirement locations.

67 and bright sun here. I'm just back from 15 miles on the Raleigh.

Stay in the mountains, and once you acclimate to the (lack of) humidity it's wonderful, climatically at least. Maybe one week of 90+F last summer here in LA, but you had to deal with excruciating 15-20%RH (oy, so muggy!). On my once/twice per month visits to DC I was shocked, in July/August, that humans could life like that in the swamp. Those are just inhumane conditions...

However, in April, I've seen 1% humidity reported here. And with 40mph wind, that's serious chapped-eyeball and bleeding-lips conditions.

We had a heck of a night here. Wind blowing the trees around along with a bit of ice. This morning we had hail, ice, and a few snow flakes all coming down at the same time. It all just amounted to three eights of an inch of precipitation though. Temps are still in the mid forties, which is pretty cool for here. It's great to have a change of season finally.

I was on a chairlift at Angel Fire as a thunder snowstorm started up. As soon as we unloaded they quickly shut down the lifts.

It was damn loud with so many echos.

Eeek! Lightning, when riding on basically a lightning rod hanging from a cable, is dodgy! Huge nope here. I get edgy when there are storms a dozen miles away while on a 2-wheel lightning rod.

And for the future (maybe) retiree to NM, Angel Fire is well regarded, though a little clogged up with Texans skiing on spring break. An alternative is _far_ out of the woods, but Silver City is pretty cool. Like seriously, far from anywhere.

One day on the mountaintop, we were socked in with a low cloud layer, driving snow and lightning. So, basically freezing snow, in a fog bank, with lighting hitting the mountain around you. Every time there was a lightning strike, the entire cloud bank would light up like a florescent light, with us inside of it, blinding us. You couldn't tell how close it was or what direction, because the air itself was illuminated and the sound was echoing from every direction.

Good times...

The only reason I was at AF was because the girl I took had never skied and for her AF was better than Taos on her first 2 days. She survived Taos the last two days.

October 4th, 1987, we were heading out for a hike in the Adirondacks. Several of us may have consumed adult beverages the night before...

As we were driving away from Schenectady, there was a flash of light. The car went quiet. No one wanted to admit they saw a flash. Until the thunder hit.

That day was a snowstorm that devastated the area, since the leaves were still on the trees.

And here in the PNW, I got notice we are supposed to have 2.3” of rain tomorrow.

I was a ranger at a place named Rae Lakes in 1971, I walked up to the top of the pass to the south one day. It was under a layer of high clouds. As I got to the top of the pass, I felt sort of tingly. Two people sitting there among the rocks at the top said, "Hey, your hair is standing up on end." I imediately dropped down among the rocks myself.

Yeah, if it is stormy and you are in the mountains, if your hair stands on end, you want to get low as you can.

Saw a tree get hit by lightning once. Could not see or hear anything for about 5 minutes.

To the OP, you're complaining about 300+ days of sunshine? Alrighty then.....

Very cool.

I've seen snow a few times here in Houston since 1995, and a few times when I lived in NoVA. I experienced a lot of snow when we lived in northern Japan. I don't remember ever experiencing thunder with snow. Do you see lightning too?
