2024 Mustang power figures
https://www.autoblog.com/2022/12/15/2024-ford-mustang-power-figures-official/
When Ford revealed the 2024 Mustang to the world, it detailed the new engine lineup, but didn’t put final numbers to paper. Today, Ford is revealing the figures we’ve all been waiting for. Starting from the top with the Mustang Dark Horse, the 5.0-liter V8 in this model will produce 500 horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque. Upgrades over the standard GT model’s V8 include a uniquely balanced crankshaft, forged connecting rods and strengthened camshafts. Slotting in behind the Shelby GT350’s 5.2-liter V8, the Dark Horse’s engine is the second-most powerful naturally aspirated V8 to ever find its way into a production Mustang. The standard Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter V8 is rated at 480 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. For comparison’s sake, that’s 30 horsepower and 5 pound-feet of torque more than the outgoing Mustang GT’s engine. For a slight boost in power and an even bigger boost in sound, you can optionally spec the active-valve performance exhaust. This increases output to 486 horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque with its more free-flowing design. Plus, you can choose to drive around in either quiet or loud mode. |
The electric Mustang makes 480 hp and 428 lbs ft torque. But the awd and instant torque help get it off the line in a hurry!

The real question though is if I want to drive from San Antonio to El Paso, over 500 miles, how will get it done without a long layover somewhere in between? And the in between has some pretty big distance gaps between towns, enough to even cause a person to get gas well before needed just to ensure you have enough. No way you can do it in electric vehicle. |
at a track day i once drove an IRS 5.0 mustang and a tesla. and while both of them were fast as ****, they could not have been more different in sensation. the mustang was a brute, had to wrestle it into position everywhere you went. and the tesla was like a fine point mechanical pencil. similar power, similar weight, totally different driving experiences.

I gave up on number chasing in my early 40's. Couldn't care any less what car has big numbers. Anything over 300 is too much for almost every driver on American roads.

Impressive that a base gt will be almost 500hp, will be really fast especially with the right options.
I really wish 'mericans would make a lighter/smaller real sports car especially now with vette going even more upmarket and less of a purist car. |
The cars and coffee crowd better watch out for these new Mustangs 😋

Bah, I'm getting old I guess. |
wasnt that long ago where i would say new cars are too fast, have to go to a track to appreciate. Now its new cars are too fast have to be a pro driver at a track to appreciate.
New to me cayman GTS is my first ownership experience with a car that is so relaxed and capable at speed, the prior exige was a drama queen even backing out of the drive. I sorta appreciate it 90% of the time but a little excitement is lost. I think that is the charm of a miata on stock rolly suspension and all seasons. |
