one KILLER Vette!
Over the weekend, my buddy Ed came over with his 1969 Corvette Stingray for a family barbecue. He has been working on this thing for the last ten years and he has it up and running now.
Some specs Matching number 4 speed all aluminum 427 (bored out to 468) with working cowl induction, 700HP! 10 flat in the quarter mile. Custom tubbed rear end/ shortened axles 4.11 rear end with Mickey Thompson street-legal slicks. The best part is his custom license plate...... LOL! (edited for the board of course) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/427.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/Vette2.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/Vette3.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/UCops1.jpg |

With a plate like that, I imagine he is popular with the local cops :-)
|
'69 427...it's kind of like the F104. Not nearly as pretty as those who came before. Not as sohisticated as those who came later. But it did it's job, and damned well!
|
i would get in SO much trouble if i owned that http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/gitaar.gif
|
No kidding! Flat 10s! Awesome ride...
|
I definately love the license plate. Any suspension or brake work done with the beast?
|
I should have gotten some pics underneath. All custom suspension. The rear end has been tubbed, the axles shortened. It has a custom front and rear multi-link setup that my buddy machined and built himself, really trick...
|
Very nice!! If I were to own a Vette, it would be 68-72 or a 63 split window.
But that would be after my real 73RS, 67S, 72 3.6 monster, and 993. You know, the usual stuff. |
700hp from a non turbo/supercharged/nitrous engine? I find that incredibly hard to believe! But still a nice car. :)
|
700HP ALL motor.

You know those things are worth a buttload of cash don't you? If I had a chance, I'd by a 68-72 Stingray in a heartbeat. badass car. http://www.corvettes-musclecars.com/corvette/69ZL1/ rjp |
Ed bought the car wrecked and totally rebuilt it from the ground up into his dream car. trust me, it's FAST.
Not sure if it's a ZL-1 or not. I think It's an L-88 |
L-88 had aluminum heads (?) but had an iron block. Either way, that's the Vette to own.

Hmm.. I know for a fact the heads are aluminum. maybe it is an iron block. After reading up on the ZL-1, I relaize this car is NOT one.
|
Nice car, but I hope its not an L88 either, (it doesn't appear to have an L88 hood) as the engine and chassis mods will have significantly impacted its value.
There were only a couple of hundred L88's made from 67-69, and real, documented, unmolested ones are six figure cars all day long among the numbers-matching NCRS guys. Whatever it is, it looks like some straight line fun. Tim |
I has a working 435HP cowl induction hood. Didnt those come on the L-88?
|
Maybe its the photo, but the car above doesn't appear to have the additional inner box section of an L88 hood shown in the photo below, (although aftermarket ones are available from tons of vendors).
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/L88side.jpg The real factory L88 hood had a round gasket attached to the underside to mate with the outer ring of the housing for the much smaller air filter: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/L88 engine.jpg I would guess (and its just that, a guess) that if its stated as 435 HP on the console plaque then your friend's car could have been an L71. They had a legit, factory rating of 435 HP. The factory, in a bit of trickery for the Feds, rated the L88 at 430 HP, although they really were closer to 550-600. (Don't see Chevy trying that these days...:) ) In any case, it looks good. Tim |
Even on the off topic board...I learn stuff. Thanks, Tim!

For all the disbelievers in BBC HP, this month (coincidentally it seems), both Car Craft and Chevy High Performance magazines (yes, I know heresy or something like that) both have dyno tests on the big block.
CHP: 540 ci = 785hp/644 ft lb $9000.00 CC: 476 ci = 911hp/683 ft lb $13,000.00 (yikes, but that's as run, complete carb to pan) 700 hp these days isn't that hard to come by anymore for the big block. All you have to do is figure out how to get it to hook up. |
