Were you fantasizing shooting someone because they parked in “your” parking spot, or flipped you a bird? Idiocy isn’t only expressed outwardly. Some self-reflection might bear fruit, hopefully before someone else with a similar mindset shows everyone how non-idiotic they are by pulling a gun on you.

Not fantasizing in the slightest. When you carry you have to be more inclined to step away from stupid situations because the alternative is not good. No way was I going to get into a fist fight over a parking spot. And if I did and it escalated, it would go poorly on me for being armed.

Also, in recent years in my line of work I've come across more and more people with gang affiliation even folks in their 40s and 50s or higher. So you never know whom you are interacting with and how far they are willing to go. I carry to stop a situation not start one.

The point was this guy had no idea who he was dealing with nor whether that person was armed. For all he knew I was willing to go all in over a parking spot so being a douche was a risky move.

That is exactly correct: No one knows and I'm not looking for an instruction manual into an under 30 mind set.

I have written here that my son is a lawyer in Norfolk, Va. and sees and interacts with an interesting slice of the population.

I truck carry 100% of the time. I have zero gun fantasies or intent to use unless there are no other options. I have shot weapons in anger and it isn't tidy.

Back to flashers, specifically the position of engagement button.

I owned an 560SL for five years. Loved the thing except the heating and a/c controls, the absolute goofiest human interface in the history of cars, and this:

Yes, that's right, the flasher control is well below any sight lines and blocked by the drivers leg...and between the window thingies. I have forgotten what the toogle below the flasher control does, probably send a schadenfreude email alert to the Benz designers.

That would be the RH mirror adjustment…LH is manual, (because you can reach it while driving), and RH was electric. Yeah, they really did that. :)

Thanks for explaining - I understand better what you were getting at.

To Seahawk's comment about the "under 30 mindset" I'm not sure what or who he was referring to, or what that means, but if it was me I'm pushing 50 <shrug>

The reference is to the young predators out there...they exist and they do not care about you or me.

Nothing to do with you.

So true. We had an elected constable get sentenced today for some felony corruption type stuff, she got probation.

Two of her sons lost their poopoo in court and started saying F the DA and apparently made threats toward the DA who just happened to be in the courtroom.

From what I hear these two young men are now looking at felonies themselves.

Sorry to digress but it was entertaining.

Speaking of parking spots, this just happened at Target. Car in front of me pulls into a parking lane, I do too, and just as he's passing a car, that car goes into reverse, lights up the back. Guy in front of me stops and backs up to get that spot. He's basically the top of the T to the car now. I put my car in reverse, car in back of me is still there, still there, still there, look around and there cars that have come in from the street and are behind him. Guy in front of me throws up his arms. He wants that spot! It is close to the entrance. I yell out the window, I can't back up. He does not care. And a solid 30 seconds goes by. Car in back of me beeps.

Raised the Cayenne up to terrain level, did a 5 point turn (parking sensors are awesome) and drove over an island and some shrubbery and was on my way. Did have to park pretty far away, busy day at Target.

It was pretty fun overall.

That's always made me laugh. People will fight over a parking space closest to a store entrance then go in and walk for an hour shopping.

Clearly top notch parenting at work there. Apples and a tree and all that...

Egg zactly.

You think you can contest parking and not be in a shootout in a rising country like china or India? Ha. Need to harden up chumps and start taking things seriously.

Dang. All these years... I've been afraid to push that damn thing because I didn't know what it did. Figured it was for the passenger side ejection seat or something. And my car doesn't have a sunroof...

So now I really want to try pushing it. I figure I'll drive out somewhere where nobody can see me, and make sure I have a fire extinguisher. And a gun.

I feel like speeder is trying to fool me into doing something embarrassing. Wouldn't be the first time. Too bad for him - I'm smarter than that... :D

I'm not so sure there are a lot of shootouts in India and China.

Guns per 100 citizens:
United States: 120.5

China: 3.6

India: 5.3

Now hazard switch use is a completely different thing and I am sure is different in each province of India and China. I've only been to Shanghai and surrounding countryside, I didn't see any use of hazards but driving was extremely civilized.

Southern India, where I've traveled extensively, that's a whole other kettle of fish. I think constant hazard is assumed so no need for the lights, both city and country. In the city, it's move or be killed. In the country, it's move over or be killed as massive trucks barrel down one lane country roads with abandon. If you don't pull over into the grass, you will be killed. Hazards on or not.
