It's funny how PN played an absolute lout in so many of his movies, but it never really stuck to his overall persona. Jeez, he tried to beat and rape Alma in his drunken stupor in this movie, yet overall his charm still wins the day, and he was never typecast as the kind of bully he played in so many of these kinds of films.
It's almost like he was cast badly, but no, he was cast perfectly as the flawed Adonis. We ate it up. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke....
Imagine Chris Pratt playing roles like this? I wonder.... no, I don't. Pratt is a lightweight, Newman is the ultimate heavyweight.

I love Hud, the movie. It wasn't until recently I realized it was part of Larry McMurtry's 'Thalia" trilogy. But of course it is. What else would it be?

^^^ Agree, Herr Oberst about Newman's general appeal and like-ability. A lot of it was hi unique sense of humour, IMHO....

Coburn is great here. "I'm Australian!"

The real Sedgwick was Dutchman, Bram Van Der Stock. He reached Dresden after the escape and convinced authorities he wasn’t an escapee. He then travelled on to Utrecht in his native Netherlands. He managed to get across the border. The Dutch Resistance gave him a bicycle to get him to Brussels in Belgium. Belgian resistance assisted and gave him paperwork as a Belgian. He then travelled by train into France down to Toulouse. The French resistance assisted him and others allied escapees and got them across the border into neutral Spain. They contacted the British consulate who accepted them all. They were then taken to Gibraltar and flown to Britain in summer 1944. BVDS took command of the Dutch RAF section and resumed flying near the end of the war.

From 2003 and directed by Peter Weir. I saw this in the theater when it came out with a good friend of mine and his teenage son. He's since moved to Oregon and his very talented and highly skilled son is married and has a wood craft business.

I loved Master and Commander. IIRC, it was a hopeful to become a franchise, sort of a grown up version of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Yes, there was a huge movement for that to happen but alas.....

LA Confidential was great, too!

Another fight scene....JCVD pretty young here!
