Was/am a dead fan since the late 70's. "Uncle Jerry is talking to me"
I am old school with Europe '72 being my favorite album.

I loved to listen to them live and hear how they would weave a pattern of sound in the jams. IMO people who 'hate' the Dead are looking for a song with a melody they can listen on the radio and sing along for 3 minutes. They don't appreciate the artistry of the atmosphere of sound the Dead created.
Also loved listening to them give hints as to what the next song would be in the middle of a jam. Then, segue into the new song and just when you thought they were done, wham, back into the original song.

Is there anything better than
China Cat / I know You Rider
Not Fade Away / Goin' Down the Road
Help On The Way / Slipnot! / Franklins Tower
Scarlet Begonias / Fire on the Mountain
Saint Stephen / Eyes of the World
Estimated Prophet / Eyes of the World
???

On the debut album.... Cold Rain and Snow. Good tune.
They got a little too spacy with the LP .. Anthem of the Sun.
Saw them many times in the late 60's because they would open for better known bands I would
go to listen to.

I saw the Dead in the summer of 1973 with the Allman Brothers at RFK Stadium in DC. All day show, was very hot and crowded and a great day from what I can remember. I never became a deadhead, was always into the ABB.

saw the boys at a park in north miami free show
on a truck bed stage power by a generator
in spring of 1968 pigpen sang lead jerry only on harmony's mostly

band was not the same without pigpen
but sound was better at later shows without the generator's drone
bear [https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2011/03/owsley_bear_stanley_the_acid_k.html]
built the wall of sound for them by then

still think they were the best county band when acoustic like american beauty or workingmans

Cornell '77 is well known as one of their best shows.

The other day I was troubleshooting an issue with my stereo; I started pulling out speakers from my stash to isolate the problem.
Eventually I just decided to do a little homage to the W of S,
(Don't judge too harshly on my Polks. It's what I have.)

Fellow Deadheads, take a listen to Billy Strings. He is rooted in Bluegrass but his shows are an eclectic stew of GD and 60s psychodelic, and roots. His crowds span many generations. It took over 10 years of 200 shows per year to get on the map.

It is like being there listening to the Dead through Meridian DSP8000 Speakers, very hard to beat.

Excepting the price.

But you're right, they are clean, transparent speakers, with a fabulous soundstage, if you can afford them.
