Cocaine Bear

Anyone seen this yet? It's been out a few weeks and the ratings are good.
Looks to be a fun movie.

The movie is based on a true story in 1985 from Georgia.

Nickshu 03-12-2023 02:30 PM

It looks hilarious. I will wait for it to come out on streaming though.

It seems stupid to me. Bear eats coke and goes on a rampage. People get scared. Why not just neutralize the bear quickly?

stevej37 03-12-2023 02:39 PM

^^^ It's not meant to be a documentary.

"Inspired by the 1985 true story of a drug runner's plane crash, missing cocaine, and the black bear that ate it, this wild thriller finds an oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converging in a Georgia forest where a 500-pound apex predator has ingested a staggering amount of cocaine and gone on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow... and blood."

I might wait for it on Netflix also....but it does look good.

stevej37 03-12-2023 02:57 PM

from a critic....

"The film is well made, efficient, clever, and some of its funny lines will have you, um, snorting. But in the end, it’s still about a bear on a coke binge."

enough for me to watch it.

stevej37 03-12-2023 03:02 PM

Bears have an incredible sense of smell.

72% on the Tomatometer.

stevej37 03-12-2023 03:56 PM

A bears nostrils are probably three times the size of a humans....go bears!!

A sure sign of a movie I want to see....from a commenter....lol

"I just walked out of that movie."

jhynesrockmtn 03-12-2023 05:44 PM

I listened to an interview with the Director. A bear eating cocaine is where the true story ended. It died soon after.

stevej37 03-12-2023 05:48 PM

^^^ Aww...you spoiled the ending. :)
Now no one is scared of the drug induced bear.

Yep, that's probably an indication that it's really entertaining. When I was in HS, I noticed that the movies that got the most "critical acclaim" from reviewers were often not entertaining. And the movies that I heard the most people "love" seemed to get panned by the critics.

Now that I'm older, I can appreciate all sorts of movies, but I still find that some of the stuff that's the most loved by critics is boring, and a lot of the stuff that they hate is very entertaining.

Not every movie needs to be deep or meaningful. Not every poem needs layers or hidden meaning.

stevej37 03-12-2023 06:04 PM

^^^ True that.
A movie needs only to hold the audience with the activity. If it gets dull/boring the movie is done.

stevej37 03-22-2023 12:18 PM

Saw it yesterday....entertaining movie and only one and half hours long.:)
Prob should be labeled as a comedy thriller....lots of blood and gore.

I was surprised to see how large of a part Ray Liotta had in it.

Probably the worst movie I have ever watched. I want my money back....

I agree. If the critics all just love it, I am very skeptical. I have bailed out on some movies the critics thought were great. And movies they panned I loved.

Fantastic idea to mainstream cocaine, make a joke out of it similar to 'omg i was sooo drunk last night...' and get it into the daily conversations of children. Just brilliant.
