Today's Lingo...
I try to catch the UM podcast whenever I can. It's on every afternoon for an hour and the man running it is 55 years old and very likeable/knowledgeable about UM sports.
Today's podcast was titled 'Smash It or Pass It'...meaning that he would give 10 diff scenarios for the upcoming football season and listeners/viewers could comment on and pick smash(as in like it) or pass (as in don't like it) Immediately when it went on air...their were comments about his title. 'Smash it or Pass It' Here is a summary.... "please edit your title..we have teen-age boys listening/viewing this podcast." "change your title...don't want my sons hearing this." plus a few others that I can't remember. What am I missing? |
"smash" is also used in the same way as "plow", "bang", "have sex with", etc... (you need to watch more Letterkenny :D)
It's also silly, because on YT, it's very common to say "smash that like button" but in that case, it's being used in a different way. THe people complaining are being silly, IMO. |
The podcaster said that he got the idea for the title from Tic-Tok. He had no idea that it was offensive.
Are we supposed to follow the rules of 'the new lingo/talk' now? |
I thought "Smash" mean an activity done with enthusiasm, energy and speed. An example being "We bought a new house that needed renovating. We absolutely smashed it in three weeks."
But what would I know, I'm just an old git from the coast. |
Yeah, 'smash' is a sexual innuendo.
Don't use that at work |
I guess I need a new dictionary...before I offend someone.:D

"Smash it or pass it" in reference to sports teams is not offensive. "Smash it or pass it" followed by a series of photos of women could probably be considered offensive. Technically, something is offensive only if you think it is. So it's entirely possible that there are women out there that would gladly provide their photos to an activity like that and wouldn't be offended at all. Most of you have probably seen this before. IMO, portions of it cannot be stated often enough these days. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/vbsHox73mRo?start=201" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> Quote:

Walking into my garage today...there was a large spider on the floor. I smashed it.
Im I in trouble? |

Just so long as you did it in the privacy of your garage and there were no teenage boys that saw, you're probably OK. But give it another few years and that could change. |
I saw this the other day and thought it was also spot on. I know you love your shorts, so...

^^^ the spider wasn't that attractive. Maybe the next one will be.

"Shag it or Bag it"
I hope someday we stop letting the pearl-clutchers win all the arguments. I'd love to see the Sofa King furniture truck in the neighborhood again. |
^^^ words of wisdom.:D

^^^ That's exactly what I was thinking.....but the podcaster had to address the posts.
It left him in an uncomfortable position. |
