The Big Ol' Butt

So, a very good friend of mine asked me if I wanted to store and use his 1972 1 Ton dump truck. He has another project inbound and I have barn space.

He owns the Stovebolt (https://www.stovebolt.com/) website and, while I know zippy about old trucks, he trusts me not to goon this. I have the technology to goon a sunrise but John has faith.

I think WD knows him as well.

So, while I know the truck, I needed to make sure I learned a bit more. The pictures that follow are all taken inside the garage. Taken today, more to follow after we get it out in a week or two.

Nice! Probably a 345 or 392(I think!) coupled with a T18 4spd. Grandpa bought a 63 3/4 ton International in 1963. Ran like a top. We would still have it if the barn didn’t blow down and rust consumed the sheet metal. I think a clutch job for our truck was almost $3000. Not sure why?

Fuel consumption will be awful. Should have loads of grunt and run longer then all of us.

Cool rig!

That truck will certainly need a name.

If you figure the fertilizing and plowing is already complete, he trusts you to keep his big ol butt dry

Cool. reminds me of the dump truck I used working in construction in Weschester County when I was 20.

John the Chevy man bought a Cornbinder? Blasphemy!!
A truck that size is perfect to have around a small farm. I've often wished I had an older 2 or 3 yard dump. The problem is registration and insurance costs more than renting a dump trailer 3-4 times a year.

sc_rufctr 04-30-2023 02:58 AM

Cool and Old school... That truck will outlive most of us!

Oh, 100%. I am just going to care take the BOB and drive it once a month or so until it goes back.

I have had a dump trailer for over a decade that will continue to do the dirty work.

Road test to follow:cool:
