Canadian Wildfires

Third day of hazy skies here from wildfires in Canada.
It must be huge fires for the smoke to travel this far. Hopefully they can get it under control.

I could smell the smoke in the cardiac unit today before I left. It is brutal. The ICU is in the same floor.

Here is a photo taken from my hospital room this morning…

There are 90 wild fires in Alberta right now. The top 2/3 of the province is tinder dry. The south, where we are just got a fire restriction (not ban) this week.

Hopefully there are few homes in that area.

It is brutal here in the Rockies from those fires.

I drove in south british columbia last year, drive 2 days, 6 hours each day and its thin dead trees as far as the eye could see. Logging trucks we saw only carrying trees that might be large enough to make a post for a stop sign - scrub to my eyes.

Theres no getting this under control. Its 150 years of bad forestry practice, pine beetle and global warming. Place is a desert all summer long.

Smoke isn’t as bad at our place today. I can barely make out the Rocky Mountains.

The dandelions are up but then again, so is the barley.

These blazes are terrifying. We had a small one here two months ago. It was limited to ground brush because the deciduous trees hadn't leafed out yet and the evergreens are widely spread in that area. but it was only 4 miles from me and my go bag was ready just in case.

Trudeau is blaming guns & truckers for the fires. (Its a joke!)

^^^ It's gotta be those 'jake brakes'

I was driving to Gingerman Raceway from Lansing Thursday and the weather report mentioned that we would have clear skies if it weren’t for the fires in the west. Having recently moved from Northern California, I thought I was done with this.

^^^ lol...welcome to the cast-off fire/smoke area.
I heard it will change this next week when the jet-stream moves.

It will be nice to see the sun again.

unclebilly 05-22-2023 07:35 AM

And we are back to experiencing the worst air quality in the world right here in Alberta, Canada…

It was a little better here today...less haze.

It's funny to watch the weather.com forecasts...every day of the last week has been forecast as 'sunny'....their equipment must not track smoke.

Tobra 05-22-2023 04:41 PM

It is sunny, you just can't tell

stevej37 05-24-2023 08:36 AM

Almost 2000 miles away and it's still hazy again.

Would be nice if it brought some rain with it....terrible dry here this spring.
