Car Carry flashlight?

Leaky batteries killed the old 2 D cell incadescent bulb light I carried in the Mustang. Surfing the web, I get confused by all the new LED offerings. But overall, I'd like fairly compact, similar light output, decent battery life for roadside emergencies like tire changes, etc.

So, what do you guys use/recommend?

I use the little flashlights that Harbor Freight used to give away. 3 AAA batteries, small and easy to store in the glove box. I check my flashlights once every 6 months to see if they are still bright. When they aren't I'll usually find one of the batteries has started to corrode or leak.

I have one of these similar lights from the same company (some are older models that require charging battery separately) in every single car and too box. Any new LED flash light will be about 4-5 times brighter then your old D cell light. https://www.amazon.com/ThruNite-TN12-Pro-Rechargeable-Flashlight/dp/B09YCK4GS4/ref=sr_1_6?hvadid=177795983233&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=90 30984&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=8596921325914003019& hvtargid=kwd-35788763312&hydadcr=1609_9901452&keywords=thrunite %2Btn11&qid=1685823446&sr=8-6&th=1

For a few more dollars, I would recommend this. It is a little brighter and a bit longer run time. https://www.amazon.com/ThruNite-Customized-Flashlight-Ultra-Bright-Rechargeable/dp/B07VNR249H/ref=psdc_2445457011_t1_B09YCK4GS4?th=1

I have the cheap headband type. Never take them out of the package until show time.

Same with luggage when I travel.

I like these. Keep one in every glove box plus in the house. Rechargeable. Compact. Get the job done. Inexpensive.

For sitting in the car, get something cheap in the size that you want from HD, Lowes, HF. It's pretty hard to go wrong these days.
If you want to go with something nicer, and more expensive, but still on a budget, check out olight brand stuff. And they have a sale on, or starting soon. Olight is similar to the really premium stuff, but at better prices. And there quality seems comparable to me.

Thanks guys...for just a sitting in the car light..yeah, cheap is me. I'll cruise harbor freight next time I'm in the nearby town it's located in.

Just picked these up. The tall one has a strong magnet, works great under the hood.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1685840475.jpg

Many of the newer Olight models also have magnets on the butt end. Cool feature.

This one was $24 at a battery store.

Anything from Fenix. I carry the tactical light in my pocket and I have a headlamp in my go bag. I’ve used them every night at work for ten years. There aren’t many companies in any genre that I could suggest with more confidence than Fenix.

A wee bit spendy. Ten years would make it worth the price.

Paid for one of those light, Fenix, O-light, Thrunite or others, they last a long time. My Zebralight head lamp is going strong after 10 + years. Flood beam works great.

I've got zebralight headlight (because of you or someone on the board), a thrunight flashlight (again, PPOT), and a few tiny Olights that were promotional items. I also have an Olight headlight, and will likely end up with one of the brighter Olight flashlights. I almost bought one during the last sale, and wish I had, maybe the next time the model that I want goes on sale.

I was disappointed with my O-Light head lamp. Its bright, has two bulbs, one flood the other spot. I gave it a try only because it can be turned on, dimmed and all the good stuff by my hand motion. That feature needs a bit of work still by O-Light, IMO. Worst is if I wave my hand anywhere my face, like reaching for an item in the upper shelf it triggers the lamp. If my hair is longer, it covers the sensor a tiny bit, the motion sensor doesn't work. Back to Zebralight. Two of my go to Zebralight uses 18650 battery so they are plenty bright for working outside. I do not get blinded on high due to the hot spot being to large, the light doesn't bounce back to blind the user. I love them due to their simple operation. One button, no cycling through, no clicks.

I bought two of these and they were far better than I expected. Super bright with a lot of features. Metal, not plastic.
And if you want to spend more you can get the vehicle holder for it.

Depends. If you want to fix something, these can't be beat. Great light, and your hands are free.

If you want to fix someone, then this would be best. You will only have one free hand, though.

Yep, my zebralight is great. My Olight headlight just has a normal button like the zebralight, no hand gesture stuff. The Olight has a magnetic charger that sticks to the end of the light to charge.

One of those babies and a ball cap to shield your own eyes is my go to. Part of the car tool kit, light and a hat. What if you have an aluminum hood? Looking at all you Miata metrosexuals Dad got me a flashlight that flashes SOS, does the strobelight disorient them thing and is bright enough to signal the international space station

pwd72s 06-04-2023 12:07 PM

Update: Hey, I said I was cheap. Friendly neighbor has Amazon prime...so I got this: Only thing that concerns me is burn time on 3 AAA batteries? Functionally, should do as well, or better than the old light that served for years.
