Our Yella Dog mutt, Roxy has injured another leg. She is down to one good leg now…

It seems like her right front knee is bothering her and she can’t put weight on it. We wrapped it and it seemed to get better for a day or so and the swelling went down. It’s still bothering her so I gave her a shot of metacam tonight. We will see how it goes.

The livestock metacam is 4x more concentrated than the small animal metacam so I adjusted the dose accordingly. It’s actually interesting that in a weight basis, dogs get 1/2 the dose that a similar size calf would get.

I’m hoping she’s feeling better in the morning.

She’s 10 and really slowing down.

Our old border collie is 13 and the thousands of high speed retrieves are showing themselves in her ability to get up (front end).
She has been a great dog for us.

Consider Gabapentin and a good anti-inflammatory. Better yet, take her to a veterinarian. Not everything can be addressed at Tractor Supply.

I do the same for an 18 YO cat. Seems to have worked as he became more mobile. But he's been on it for 2 years so age is creeping.

Have one 10 yo large mutt (english shepherd and sneaky neighbor dog) and a 9 yo slightly smaller but similar lineage mutt. They both started to look pretty uncomfortable over winter and had a really tough time standing up by spring. Took the female in to the vet and had a back knee imaged because she was carrying a foot/leg. Came back with a "partial ACL tear" diagnosis and $500 vet bill. :confused:

I changed their diet, gave the female a week's run of bactrim and started both on a couple multivitamins each day. 4 months later, both are much, much better and no more limping.

Yes, she gets this as well.

The metacam seemed to work. It worked well enough that she followed us for a 1.5 mile walk this morning (we told her to stay). She limped and was pretty slow but in not as much pain as yesterday. I will give her another shot in a couple days. It costs less than a dollar to give her .5 mL…

I'm glad you are taking care of her Billy. You are a good man, and I'll bet you would still give it to her if .5 ml cost $5.
