LG washer/dryer
 

Just helped my son install a stack set LG washer/dryer. Very tricky as it barely fits in an original designed space. I’m a dummy so of course I pulled out the plugs in hot and cold inlets. We got it into its tight space and the dryer worked well. Washer would not fill with water… no water what so ever. Pulled the unit back out and made sure the water was flowing from the feed lines. My son pulled up a video and discovered that the plugs I pulled were actually filters. After searching the garbage we found them. So… no filters in the inlet ports means no water to the machine. Learned something new.

Be sure to clean the pump filter every few months. Other than that the LG's are pretty good machines. Plenty of people forget and take out their water pump.

Will do…. Thanks. Salesman said something about putting the washer into self clean mode once a month. Going to look into that too.

I always thought appliances should all have casters on them - plus enough length electric cords/hoses, etc. so you could pull them out very easily to clean where they sit and also effect inspection/repairs as needed.

I had to replace the 220v outlet behind my stove and aside from the hassle of 'walking' it out for access - when I re-installed I had to lay upside down across the back of it to reach down and plug it in.

A longer power cord would have been nice!

The old dryer had a 4 ft cord. I went out and got a 6 ft. Really needed an 8 ft cord. I’m pretty skinny and I barely fit behind the unit to do the connections. Stupid design…. Plus it’s upstairs! Washers and water heaters should never be upstairs in my opinion.

I have the same setup in LP. Got it for ... $500 new at lowes b/c some contractor had ordered the ng ones but only had electric. Returned, and they blew them out. Lp orifice was $30.

Wow… great score! We paid $2000 including $200 for delivery, install and hauling away the old units. The guys showed up near the end of the day and didn’t want to install it. They said I had a leaky shut off valve. I went there to replace the valve but didn’t need to, it is fine. My son and I put it in. It was a hell job but now we will get $200 back.

Thanks for posting this Bugsinrugs as it proved to be really helpful to me. We have a LG washer and dryer that we purchased 2-1/2 years ago and it has done an outstanding job. When edgemar added the note about the importance of cleaning the pump filter, I was feeling a bit bewildered... 'what pump filter'??? I quickly Googled the cleaning procedure and found a YouTube video that described the simple steps required. As soon as I arrived home, I looked at our machine and saw the left-hand lower door for the VERY FIRST time!!! I drained, removed, and cleaned the filter - thankfully, it was practically empty but, rest assured, I will be performing this maintenance item on a much more regular basis. Thank you edgemar for sharing the cleaning requirement!

Love this forum! Combined there is so much knowledge here. I was also told the washing machine should be put into clean mode once a month. I need to read more about that.

Do other washers have the same pump filter risk?

I think most of the front loaders have them. I have an LG top loader without the agitator with a pump without a filter. Just spent $600 replacing the board and pump after two years. Luckily I had a credit card extended warranty. Tech said it was rare for that to happen.

He said the biggest issue was clogged pumps due to screens never being cleaned.

Also, said LG fridges suck.

The other reason to clean the filter regularly is that if you do not, the little hose that allows you to completely drain the washer will get plugged up with debris/residue.

Then when the washer needs servicing you will have a small mess on your hands trying to empty it.

I am one of these people.
Fortunately, the pump R/R is pretty easy and I think I paid $29 for the part.

I've also had to replace the control circuit board, which was a more expensive part, but just as straightforward to R/R. I've had mine for close to 20 years and those have been the only issues.
