P0033 fault code- fuel pressure regulator ?

Hey guys today my 2001 GMC diesel dually was chugging along with 4000 lbs of gravel in the bed . I was halfway home when out of the blue I had no power and the service engine soon light came on .

Somehow I limped it home . Hooked up the code reader and P0033 came up . I think that points to the fuel pressure regulator . Truck has 190k and I change fuel filters every 15k . Any thoughts on that fault code ?

I don't see or smell any diesel fuel . The truck will start but virtually no throttle pedal response . It goes to about 2k and then lays down . Any help is appreciated.

I see it relates to the turbo or supercharger plumbing. Bypass valve.

I think I had that issue in my 2002 Turbo Beetle. One of the before the intercooler hoses had a crack in it. Boost bled out. Sounded like a vacuum sweeper. Very little power.

I will start inspecting the hoses . Bob thanks for the tip .

Looks like I have a dead waste gate . Pulled the hose off and applied air pressure up to 50 psi and it didn't move at all . I think it is stuck open which means it won't build any boost .

I inspected all the hoses with the engine off and then when running . I found nothing obvious and didn't hear anything . So I will order a new waste gate . In the meantime I have started soaking the turbo heat shield bolts with PB Blaster to hopefully be able to remove them without breaking .

Called several " diesel shops " and no one had the wastegate . Called a few FLAPS ........ nope . So ordered from KB Diesel in PA. Price was $41.95 with free shipping and no sales tax . Hard to beat that . Unfortunately snail mail is a 4-6 day delivery . That's OK I am retired 🙂

To close this out a new turbo waste gate valve solved my issue . I don't want to replace that very often . My arms look like I fought a badger and lost 😋
