Help with sprinkler heads
 

Brand new system - the installer/tech demonstrated how to adjust the coverage area and water flow volume. I'll be damned if I can do it.

I have several zones that overlap and would like to reduce the output of the opposing heads in the zones so they don't give me double coverage.

He gave me a white plastic tool to insert and twist, but yesterday all I accomplished was getting myself soaked. I think he also used a very small screwdriver to reduce/increase flow.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Bill K

Grab a glove and a tub of heavy grease. Coat every fitting. And the rest of it.

I had never even come close to considering this, which is not unusual.

Great advice!

Mine is quite similar and the screw that holds the spray nozzle in place can also be screwed down further to enter into the stream of water to help spread the spray pattern.

The operator makes it look so simple.

Thanks...but the system, with all 27 heads, is already buried on the property.

I'm guessing that the lube operation is something that the install team does not perform ?

If you are still having problems....call the installer and ask if they can stop by and help you. Most contractors would do this if asked.

Hey Bill......in a proper spacing......the spray radius of each head should reach the head(s) of every other adjacent head.

In other words....the streams of water should overlap each other.

That is because of the trajectory of the water stream...to ensure proper coverage overlap is needed.

So maybe your system is adjusted right.

In any event - your contractor can help you with any questions you have. If it's a brand new system he'd probably not mind coming by just to double check his own work. In a perfect world.....

Question - does the head need to be elevated for the adjustment to take place?

Does the water have to be flowing through the head?

Yes - should be running......don't break the heads! :cool:

Bill - quick followup to clarify. These are gear driven heads. And as such, the gears are subject to damage if the adjustment process isn't handled properly and carefully.

If you are not certain about what you are doing - please do not proceed.

As I said before....contact your contractor and ask if he can come back by and help you understand how your system is set up design wise and also any adjustment instruction. It's not all that hard but better when someone shows it to you in person.
