T-Mobile ... help a Luddite out .... 5G

Steve ... hep me bro .... I needs hep :D!

Moved up to a 5G phone yesterday... 4G wasn't fine anymore (AT&T or T-Mobile) after years .... them bastids ... all BOTH of 'em ;).

New phone keeps switching back & forth between 5GUC and 5G here at my house .... constantly interupting the data connection .... it's worse than 4G was :(. I don't need the capacity of 5GUC .... how can I lock it on 5G?

Anyone know?

Gotta go mow some mo' .... back later... TIA!

I have a 4G Tracphone...but the settings are prob similar for T-Mobile.

From settings....Network and internet....mobile network....advanced....enhanced mode.

My phone is 4G, so the last choice is for LTE or not. I would guess yours would be for 5GUC or not.

Just a guess.

I'm no help at all, I just got a new phone last weekend, s23plus, it showed 5G the other day and I didn't even know it had that capability. Lol. I upgraded from a Note 8, man this one is much faster!!!

I think it's going to be phone dependent, and some/most phones don't seem to have an easy way to disable 5G UC. In most cases you can disable 5G which is all 5G, not just 5G UC.

Apparently, the difference between 5G and 5G UC is N41 (5G UC - 2.5GHz) vs N71 (5G - 600MHz)

I found one recommendation online for iPhones - "It won't disable it fully, but you can switch to 5G Auto and Low Power Mode, it will theoretically keep stable connections instead of trying to search for the best. No guarantee itll fix it but worth a shot"

I found another recommendation for Samsung (Android) - "For Samsung phones enter the following code *#2263# > sim 1 > NR5G > uncheck NR41 NSA/SA > go to main > apply"

I don't know if either will help you. Most of what I've seen is "you can disable 5G entirely"

Thanks Steve .... the "other" Steve knows I'm a Luddite .... and he ain't wrong ;).

I see no options .... other than "Allow 5G" which I've turned off .... so now I'm back to 4G (LTE), and we'll see...

The only options were:

Allow 2G (I've turned that off also)
Allow 5G (now off)

We'll see .... thanks!

But now I'm betting it's gonna be as crappy as my last phone had become .... on two different carriers :(.

It's only an issue here at my house during peak times .... can't even have a decent phone call .... which ain't ALL bad :D

Thanks Steve M. ... you posted while I was typing. I'll see how this goes....

May have to go back to AT&T (on 5G) .... time will tell.
