Moms

Long meetings today, I needed a ride around the block to get settled. FJ FTW.

Get back and my wife is on the phone with my son.

He called her to chat and unload the pack, just like I did with my Mom. Nothing could make me happier.

It is, and it is a gift, what Mom’s do if you get lucky.

That is all I have.

Best.

I know that you played a big part in that but you Sir are a very lucky man.

Oh, I know.

My goal was to provide the exact same environment I was raised in for both our children.

I know exactly why he called her and I love it.

I just wanted to share some positivity...is that a word?

My Mum is rock solid. She's the Matriarch of our extended and diverse family. :)

The definition of true unconditional love. I sure miss mine.

My Dad passed more than 25 years ago and I still miss him.

Started over 10 years ago by Herr Oberst.......one of the best threads we've ever had here:

Post a pic of your mom!

Seahawk 09-06-2023 04:34 PM

^^^ Bless you, Baz.

Found the picture of my Mom.

You can thank Herr Oberst......it's a wonderful thread.....just wonderful......:)

I missed all this. My parents were both great on paper - clean, sober, responsible - but in fact were indifferent to being parents. My mom lived 3 miles from me for 10 years and never came to visit. I didn't even notice. It was the way I was raised. We just weren't that kind of people.
My amazing wife has a weekly (sometimes more often) hour long chat with her son. I don't really know what I missed, but listening to them and reading this thread, it seems like a lot.

Greatest gift a child could ever have, two loving parents.

Lot of guys here married out of their league, probably most of us.

Just looked at the picture of Mom thread.

Flatbutt, the mother of your children could be my sister's twin

Some moms are described as “doing the best they can”.

I hear you @wdfifteen.

Lost my mom in 2005 . She was the glue that held our family together .

100% truth right there.

My parents were married for 54 years before my mom died. Never once did I worry about where I would sleep, or If I was going to eat or not. I never once saw them have a screaming argument like most every TV and movie about couples show. I was spanked, but never abused in any way. I never doubted for a second they would do whatever was needed to make sure I was safe.

We were far from rich money wise, but I was wealthy beyond the dreams of most children of the world in having wonderful parents.

Seahawk, you know you’re a fortunate man. Some sons are just not wired like that… the lucky ones are, but some just don’t think to reach out. I have a wonderful person sitting across from me who would shave years off her life to have her sons share more of themselves with her. My daughter is much much better that way, thankfully.

It just occurred to me maybe I should call my Mom…

I've never had a close relationship with my own parents. I wanted it to be different with my own son.

Getting a short text or him coming home for dinner makes me smile every time. My day is infinitely better if he touches base.

I'm sure, if your moms are like me: They value every time you call, text or stop by.

You struck a chord with the desire to raise children in the same environment as your parents. Sometimes I fail. My dad came home from work every night and would kiss my mom. Sometimes I allow my anger from previous dustups to affect my relationship with my wife. I need to do better to set the example that my dad set for us.

I also will call my mom tonight.

Kinda sorta the same for me. My Dad was OLD SCHOOL Sicilian and so fists were used instead of words. Mom was the one that provided the healing. Due to Dad's behavior I vowed to never raise anything more than an eyebrow to FB II and Flatbutt-ette. IDK for sure but that may be why my grandchildren have never received any discipline more than a stern word from their parents. And those children are amongst the best behaved you'll ever meet.

Chocaholic 09-08-2023 11:12 AM

My father-in-law used to say, the best gift you can give your children is a strong marriage.

HobieMarty 09-08-2023 11:12 AM

Moms are the best!!! My Mom is my rock and I talk or text her every day!!! I am blessed to have had two loving parents, and even though they went their separate ways when I was a teenager, they loved their children and stayed friends.
