31 years .....
My parents got together in an interesting way... Mom was finishing her PhD at UCLA, Dad was a newly tenured professor here in Gainesville at UF. They met in an elevator at a convention in Cincinnati, got married 3 weeks later (Dad drove the 356 out to LA), and lasted 27 years until the day Dad died.
31 years ago, I met a nurse at work, was probably something romantic like "Hey, Mr Jones in 412 is back from PT and shiat his pants, needs a new diaper" .... Followed it up with a date, which turned into a one-night stand..... and 3 weeks later we were living together. My Mom questioned me about it, but I reminded her of what she and dad did back in '68. And then 7 years after that we married. And now 31 years later, still married, 3 kids, 3 cats and a dog. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1694268112.jpg |
Nice! What a great story, and a terrific picture. You're a lucky man!

1958, my dad was a Chemical Engineering student at Auburn, and my mother was in nursing school in Louisville, KY. As Auburn was mostly men, and nursing school was 99% women, it was obvious there was much to be gained by getting the two groups together. Thus, an series of mixers/dances were set-up, but finding a suitable, free/cheap facility somewhere between the two locations was a challenge. Ultimately, a small, state-run mental health hospital was selected; it always gave my dad great pleasure to announce to any who'd listen that "Nancy and I met when we were both at a nut house." They were married for 58 years.
Mrs. Robert and I are at 38 years and counting. |
In 1977 I was working at a chain department store called Bradlees . The store had just recently opened so all employees were new . Being young and horny I was scoping out the females . This one caught my eye , she was wearing tight black pants and was looking fine .
Asked her out and one year later we married in 1978 . Fast forward to today and we are 45 years and counting . Two fine sons that are responsible adults . Three grand children . I think it worked out well 😁 |
Congrats on 31 years.
My parents started in HS, married in their mid 20s, and were together until dad passed. I met my wife in a night club in my 20s. We're going to hit 28 years since we met in Nov. |
50 years ago next month I was visiting some friends at university and the younger sister of one friend was visiting too. She attached herself to the group and we hung around together over the weekend. Later she got my address from her sister and wrote me a letter. We corresponded through the winter and met up again in March. By that time I was sure she was the one. Last Monday we celebrated our 47th anniversary.
In our time together she has learned about cars. I have learned about horses, dogs and kids. I sometimes wonder how those two dumb kids managed to recognize the other had what they needed. I have often said I am one of the luckiest SOBs you are ever likely to meet. :D Great stories! Best to all. Les |
Great story!

We've got a few of those around...48 and counting for Cindy & I. I do feel sorry for those posting the divorce stories here. We who somehow managed to stay married are the fortunate ones.

Wonderful story and all the best! People like you give me hope. ;)

Met my wife just over 14 years ago through my hobby of mentoring young musicians. Her, now my son as well is a super talented multi-instrument player who also sings. Our story is an incredible one that I will share sometime. We are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary today.
I am pleased that we will share our anniversary date with the phenomenal bluegrass artist, Billy Strings who is getting married today. |
Congratulations, 31 years is a great run. I hope to be as fortunate.

I met my wife at the NAS Pax River O'Club in late 1988. She was a flight test engineer and I was perhaps a bit full of myself. There was an immediate connection but rather than give me her real name, since, you know, she told me her name was “Vivian Sinclair" (hint: It's not:cool:). Who could blame her. We did get on track and my roommates parents were down from Ridgefield, CT, which, if you don't know, is where money is from. Introductions made; Rebecca, my wife arrives about 10 minutes later and I introduce her as "Vivian Sinclair" and walk out of the house to attend to the BBQ. It is all on glorious Beta:D Rick the roommate was brilliant, BTW, he went on Win Ben Stein's Money and won. He and Ben remained friends for years. Rick's Dad and I played a lot of golf at the Ridgefield CC (amazing) when I was stationed at the Sikorsky Factory in Bridgeport. To all of you who share your stories, it is is fun and poignant. Best. BTW, Viv and I married in 1990. |

My wife was my best friends girlfriend. When they broke up we gravitated to each other. Best friend wasn’t happy. Been married 41 years.

Geat story. I'm always amazed at couplesa who get together after such short times and stay together.
I've known my wife for 38 years, & we've been married 27 years. Whe was just an 18 yo girl when we met & I wasn't interested, but she was interested in me although I was 25 years older. I avoided /evaded her for ten years, & she finally tired me out and I couldn't run anymore. Now I'm at a pretty advanced age but still active, and we're super happy together. I should have given in years before I did. Of all the women I've known, she's really the only one I'd choose to keep. |
Great story Steve and I loved meeting your mom and talking with her for two hours I think.

I met my wife in a bar, she was a pro sports team cheerleader, I was a college division 1 soccer player on a full ride. I was 18 and she was 20. I thought she was so beautiful I asked her to marry me that night. She said no of course. I had to leave and didn't get her #, but she told me that she worked in a bank in one town. I went to four different banks until I found her and asked her out. We got married four years later when we both finished school. Have two great kids, one has her PhD in neuro behavior and the other is a mechanical eng. We will have been married 40 years in a few weeks.
