Godzilla Minus One

Great Godzilla movie! It's a small but important detail, but they got Godzilla's roar correct as well as the overall tone and tenor of an old movie making it a lot like The Holdovers that had its own 70s style. And in that vein, one of the best things about the movie is it wasn't overproduced. Yes it could have used one two more Godzilla destroying stuff scenes and one or two less human character drama scenes, and it's those that make the pacing suffer at times, but you are rewarded with an updated but old fashioned Godzilla with enough crashing about that make it a joy to watch.

in Japanese with subtitles which made it a little more special.

It actually looks pretty good, I normally don’t like this genre but the trailer drew me in.

It is a far cry from the 1960s rubber suit Godzilla and model planes with with scratching on the film to simulate gun fire.

Funny they forgot to mention that in the local news broadcast.

Happy 70th birthday Godzilla.

I loved it, and I lost interest in Godzilla movies sometime in the ‘80s.

Without spoiling anything, this movie has engrossing human storylines - which makes the movie, since it’s been a long time since seeing the best CGI destroying Tokyo was more than a yawn - and takes Godzilla back to its genesis which is not merely atomic weapons but also the Japanese experience of defeat, death, poverty, then optimism and rebuilding which a new atomic war - in monster form - threatens to destroy all over again.

My wife was riveted, and she thinks monster movies, and all those who watch them, are as stupid as paramecium.

I finally saw this. Excellent movie, very well done. More substance than the usual Godzilla movie, but also still a good Godzilla movie. I watched it with subtitles. Dubbed just never sounds right to me. The English speaking dubbers don't convey the same emotion as the Japanese actors.
