I don’t understand that one bit. I’ve seen that before. Odd

When I was a kid..late 70s early 80s around here (finger lakes region NY) there were local competitions where people would see how far they could get their snowmobile across a pond or swamp/bog…my friends dad took us to a bunch of these events. This reminds me of that sorta thing. I guess we all like different things….do people still race snowmobiles across ponds?

stevej37 12-10-2023 03:14 PM

Those poor gators.

ramonesfreak 12-10-2023 03:18 PM

What about the turtles? Who will stand up for the turtles?

stevej37 12-10-2023 03:21 PM

Dang...I forgot about them.

Save the Turtles!!

It's important to know who The Boss of the Swamp is.

The tires on those look like sand-drag tires.
Cupped tread.

Hey, if it's got 500 CI on fuel, put it on anything. And they have.

Yeah, I remember that stuff, my old Peugeot 504 rests on the bottom of Lake George (NY) a victim of bad ice during an ice race back in 1976. There was a annual race but the ice was a little too thin that year. She didn't go in with gusto, rather it broke through front-first and we couldn't figure how to pull it out. The old silver 504 was gone the next morning (a good fish reef?).

Well, it seems more fun than chasing cheese down a hill.

CurtEgerer 12-10-2023 05:26 PM

I remember these races from all the way back on Wide World of Sports in the 70s :D Thanks for posting this because I have now marked the Winter Classic on my calendar (Jan 21) and will be there to witness it in person.

Bar just over the county line, serves pickled quail eggs from a jar, and plays both kinds of music - country AND western.

They used to have a "curated" (won't say maintained... well, kinda... dunno) 5 acre mud bog pit behind the bar, and the 3rd Saturday of the month the bog races would be run. Take all that spray those guys in the OP's vid are putting out, and replace it with mud from big redneck truck tires and add some distance to the throw.... Most contenders used their daily driver or their huntin' trucks... very few non-road registered vehicles involved

That looks like a lot of fun but they also look like cash burning machines... Were do I sign up? ;)

HobieMarty 12-10-2023 07:08 PM

Wow, haven't seen that in a while. I used to watch the swamp buggy races on a show that came on Friday nights on TNN.
