Prime Video

Received an email today from Amazon. Rates going up...unless you want commercials.
With this and the slower shipping....might have to re-think Prime.

Dear Prime member,
We are writing to you today about an upcoming change to your Prime Video experience. Starting January 29, Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisements. This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required from you, and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership. We will also offer a new ad-free option for an additional $2.99 per month* that you can sign up for here.

I rarely watch Prime. It's not all that great. On the other hand, I order virtually everything from Amazon. It's just so dang convenient.

I watch Netflix more than Prime....but if wanting good docu's, Prime wins for me.

$2.99 is nothing compared to the constant interruption of ads. No problem.

I find there's a lot of good content there, too.

Our shipping went up a few years ago (around covid time, I think), but then went back down. Maybe your increase was just a holiday rush thing.

Yep, commercials are a nightmare. On the off chance that there's some sort of issue where I can't listen to Pandora in the car and decide to turn the broadcast radio on, I usually end up turning the radio off and doing without because of the commercials. I've had a few instances where I was watching TV with commercials in the last several years (free trial period of Hulu, FreeVee on Amazon, etc...) and even in a limited setting, it makes me want to turn the TV off. The mute button is the only way to get by.

Already a lot of their content is on "Freeview" which has ads now...

My shipping rate didn't increase....it just got slower.

Maybe he underestimated the cost of his upcoming internet satellites.:)

3200 of them will put a dent in his pocketbook.

Right, that's what I meant. Back when covid hit, we had a lot of stuff that was taking closer to a week, but we've gone down to where we're probably averaging 2 days. Some things arrive in a day, some take 3 or more, but they do tell you ahead of time when something will arrive. And if it's occasionally longer, that's not a big deal to me because They are still usually the fastest access.

Can't be as bad as YouTube cutting into the middle of songs with ads. Especially when trying to listen to an album to avoid the ads... Argh.

I just canceled Netflix because of their rate increase. I can't cancel Amazon I guess because I order so much crap from them. Max will probably be next I guess.
