apex predators are a sign of a good ecosystem and keep themselves in check, as well as their ecosystems (ie they starve).

they should not be hunted. its a self solving problem.

Only true in ecosystems that allowed to remain in their natural balance which, by necessity, requires their isolation from human habitation and interference. We don't have those here anymore. Few (arguably no) ecosystems have that luxury in this modern world. Certainly none in the areas under discussion in this thread.

Bingo by Jeff. In a "natural ecosystem", Wolf packs would be keeping the Coyotes in check.

Back when I had a home on point fermin we had a coyote problem. We also had a peacock problem, I can only assume peacocks don't taste well because the coyotes wouldn't touch them.

Wildlife eating wildlife, seems to be nature by design. Coyotes in suburbia, call the USDA and get a wildlife management specialist involved.

Sadly, there are well meaning but misguided suburban people who feed Coyotes, compounding the problem.

Local Police should be allowed to use 12ga. Bean Ball or rubber buckshot all day long on these bastards

Why just the police?

Funny thing...I live near open farm fields. Grass seed a local crop. Much of the nation's lawn seeds were grown near me. Every spring, sheep are brought in to graze these fields, the nibbling seems to produce more seed heads later in the year. Anyway, perfectly legal to shoot in this rural area. I notice that farmers seem to prefer the mini 14.

The funny thing? Can't remember the last time I saw a coyote near here. Yet they are a huge problem in the heavily populated areas of the state.

We have them in farming areas in NW Ohio. I have had them try and coax my dog out into the field at night by vocalizing. Never seen them come into our yard though. If I ever see one in range, it will get to say hello to my AR15.

I probably only see one while driving about once a month or less. Some local farmers on occasion will go out in groups and track and shoot the little bastards. Varmints like skunks, opossum, coons, ground hogs and muskrats all get lead poisoning if seen on our property or if found digging holes in the side of the ditch near our house. My wife has probably bagged more than I have over the years when she was a stay at home mom. She always kept a loaded .22 by our front door. It was more common when we had outdoor cats and their catfood.

Over the decades we have watched the coyote population rise and fall in this rural area. The largest number I have seen is 7, four young and three adults on the river ice about a quarter mile away.
I know they are around at night, because we see their scat, but they have learned if they are sighted on the property during the day they will be stalked. It freakes them out if they suddenly realize you have got within a few yards of them. As a consequence they are careful not to be seen in the daylight.

the notion that humans are somehow not part of the ecosystem is its own ... wildly wrong ... opinion.

your house, your land, your neighborhood ... is part of the ecosystem around it.

reject this notion at your own peril.
