Going through the post cataract op process now. Second eye was done last week, and it's really not that bad a procedure at all. The three weeks of different eye drops throughout the day takes some adjustment but it works. Thinks are so much more defined, colors are brighter, and distance vision has greatly improved. Sort of like you've been looking through a stained glass window for years and years and suddenly you're seeing the outside through a perfectly clear window. Well worth it!

Last week I went to the golf driving range. I have the time now to become a decent golfer. I couldn't see the balls I had hit. I could see the high ones, using irons, silhouetted against the sky, but I could see NOTHING hit the ground beyond maybe 150 yards. It was still a worthwhile effort as I could feel the quality of the clubface contact, but my vision BLOWS now. I'm going to make an eye appointment.

There is a night/day difference pre and post cataract surgery. Jeff, your outcome was simpler than mine. I am very nearsighted, but the surgery was such a big improvement, I no longer need to have glasses when I read or do computer work. I do have 2 pairs, one for normal/everyday use and another pair for closer work. I have an art hobby and the closer pair works better for me.

It is not a 100% cure all. I see my eye doctor and retina doctor annually, 6 months apart. I had a torn retina in my right eye 6 months after my cataract surgery and that needs monitoring because it could happen again. Sometimes scare tissue can weep into the eye that can cause blurred vision. This can require a "clean-up" with a laser. My left eye vision isn't as good as my right eye. I can see the difference, but it isn't bad enough for the clean up surgery.

My dad wore glasses from age 5 until about age 70 when he got lens implants (eye think). He adjusted immediately to not wearing glasses. Everybody else took awhile to get used to his beady little eyes.

I had never needed glasses for anything up until this cataract began to grow. I had better than 20/20 in both eyes. Didn't even use "cheaters" to read.

I have no idea if this sort of surgery would fix issues other than cataracts. I believe other surgeries will, like Lasic, but I'm far from knowledgeable on this. Your eye doctor will have the answers you seek.

"eye doctor"...big difference between an optometrist and an ophthalmologist. I hope all here know the difference.

after having one lens replaced due to cataracts, the thing that really got me going "wow" was how bight all the colors were again.

I kept saying "Look how BLUE the sky is!"

No expert, but my wife has been through a few eye things, and this is what I remember from that.

Because the lens is replaced, there are potentially 2 benefits, 1 the clouding of the lens is gone (hence brighter colors, etc...), but also, if there was a problem with the lens that caused a problem that can be fixed as well. For instance, my mom no longer wore readers after her surgery.
