It sounds like you correctly initiated the transaction , the waitress or establishment failed . Not your fault .

Yep .... there is some flawed logic behind their policy ... and she makes NO cents ... at all :D

I'll wait to say anything until I go there again...which will be either next Tues or Fri.
The Tues special is the same BLT with a cup of Lobster Bisque. Fridays in the same as yesterdays was.

Maybe the whole transaction was a way to get a return visit.....it works.:)

Asked a friends of mine who is in the restaurant business about these gift cards. They said it can vary depending upon the brand of the gift card. But rule of thumb is when leaving a tip, you need to specify that the tip should added to the actual amount of the the check before it is processed. Has to do with the processing end of it. It's a hassle for the users.

She returned with a printed receipt for the balance and told me that I would have to use all of it for the tip or none of it.
I decided that $14 for the tip was not going to work.

It's possible that 1 she didn't know because she didn't have any gift card experience or 2 she was hoping to "force" a bigger tip. I'd like to assume #1, but these days, my first thought is usually #2.

Yeah I'd be wary of any " special sauce " additives 😀
