140 years later, they're finally changing the logo.

It turns out a dead lion surrounded by bees is kinda weird.

(FunFact - if you've ever wondered what treacle is, this is it. Why do the Brits make tasty things sound gross? Clotted cream? Sounds disgusting. But it's not!)

Partially inverted refiners syrup. Wow that is a rabbit hole. Never knew that. At least they are being honest.

Treacle is basically where molasses comes from.

They take juice from sugar cane and/or sugar beets and boil it until crystals form. They then remove the crystals (sugar) from the liquid. If they stop early on, you get "golden syrup" or light treacle. If you keep boiling and removing crystals, the treacle gets darker and then eventually, what's left is molasses (light, then dark, then bootstrap which is the darkest, least sweet of them all).

In eastern Canada, dark molasses was practically a staple. You can still buy it in gallon jugs. Biscuits fresh out of the oven with butter and molasses. Yummy!

Best

Molasses has tons of flavor and actually has a fair amount of concentrated nutrients.

We buy it by the 5 gallon pail and dump it on low quality hay or straw to feed to our cows. It’s a low cost way to improve the nutrient content in livestock feed.

Wow...talk about a trip down memory lane!

When I lived in London in the '70s to mid '80s my parents would buy Lyle's syrup, that we would have with pancakes as our once a week Saturday morning breakfast treat.

Back then, the syrup was packaged in a metal can and I always thought the Lion was sleeping NOT dead!

I've actually never seen Lyle's for sale in the US, but haven't really looked either.

"Sweet" thread.
