I watched one face off with a group of maybe 6 turkey buzzards over some dead critter in my neighbors back yard last year. He gave it up as those buzzards are pretty big dudes too.

Honestly the most amazing thing to watch are the smaller hawks going after birds mid air. Couple weeks ago i saw a hawk (red tailed maybe?) chasing a small bird slam into my neighbors garage. Wild stuff!

1st Eaglet hatched today of 3 eggs, severe snow forecast for tomorrow and next couple of days.
Jackie will probably do 72 hrs on the eggs & chicks until hunger allow Shadow to take over.

Funny, mostly what I see are other birds squawking at and harrassing the hawks to run them off. I've never seen, except in videos, the hawks going after other smaller birds. I've only ever seen them going after rodents.

We have 2 kinds of vulture here, turkey vultures (pink heads) and black vultures (black heads). Then we also have crested caracaras which are pretty cool looking. I've heard from folks that live around here that if a cow goes into labor out in a field, that the caracara and vultures can come in and kill the calf. I assume that's a pretty rare occurrence. I've never seen it myself.

We've got about 10-15 acre field just to the west of our property that the owners grow hay on. When the weather is good, after the hay gets mowed, the vultures and caracara come in and eat the critters that get run over by the mower. I assume it's mostly snakes and rats. I've seen them strip a snake a couple of times.

I've been watch them on another social media platform and they are a an example of commitment to be sure. One video I saw just her head was sticking out of the nest full of snow.

When I was in the bay area there was a camera set up at a red tail hawk pair's nest on a window ledge on a multi-story building. It was out by the bay, and near a now defunct land fill and they did well hunting seeing many ground squirrels, snakes and other vermin. was really neat to observe the 24/7 video feed.

Five years as a couple heading into a lifetime commitment to each other.
They made the national news and are social media stars with redeeming social value.
Mother nature in action, the good and the bad.

^^^^ Those two amaze me with their progress, for less than a minute the chicks were left alone.
They learned from their past chicks being eaten by Ravens due to longer periods alone.
Hoping Shadow bags himself a Raven, he owes them some nature justice. Its not beyond Eagles to do so as they mature into the apex aerial predator they are.

I think he actually does have a raven. Certainly a bird of some kind, you can see its foot under Shadow's left foot.

3 don't usually make it. The youngest one is usually so small (about a week younger) it can't compete for food.

Yeah the 3rd one was eating some, but not nearly as much as the other 2 were

Finally, the weather is improving...

Apparently, the storm took out the mic on the nest cam. The sound is from another cam lower down. That's why when the parent eagles open their beaks to screech nothing is heard.
