repairing headlight.
Hi guys,
On my "new" Camry, the headlight can't be adjust up and down anymore. Open up the headlight, I realized right away that one of the plastic past is shattered by pieces. Does anyone know where to get this kind of part? Or if you know what it is called so I can do some searches? Or if you have any thought on making up somethings to make it work? Thanks guys. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1713204248.JPG |
I'd check a dealership...looks to me like a piece dealership mechanics would ask for quite often.
|
huh? I would think dealer might have the whole assembly, not little part like this.
.... you mean the car's dealer, right? |
i use toyotapartsdeal.com for little parts like this. The parts diagrams are not as nice as PET, but you might be able to find the part you need, or the piece it would normally be sold with.

Okay then...don't check. A redneck design would be a washer tack welded to a nut, the do a double nut to lock in place. But I really would check with a dealership first, since I'd have to find the washer & nuts and a shop to do the tack weld.
There's also always a wrecked-em yard...but you'd have to find a car with the rest of the assembly damaged. On the plus side, Toyota probably used the same system on lots of models. |
Why not call a dealer? Or maybe buy a used headlight with good adjuster on it.
|
Junkyard? If any exist and if the part isn't just as bad. I have had a recent experience with a 2008 Camry and it's disintegrating coil wire connectors... So, new may be better.
Damn things literally fell apart in my hands. Good luck. Dave. |

^There ya go...looks like a fairly common problem. Buy extras...

got you. doesn't hurt to make a call right?
Worst case, I can try your "MIY" opinion Thanks. Quote:

oh no. This task is no fun. Open up a Toyota modern head light is definitely not fun. I wouldn't want to wrestle this task again.

I know I will get an answer from here.
Thanks everyone. |
Look on thingiverse… I bet an Stl exists and you can 3D print a replacement.

What does the plastic part do? Is there supposed to be a similar one on that stud with the ball end near the bottom of the picture? It looks very similar to what I can see of the the thing the plastic piece is on.
|
wdfifteen, you are right. There are 2 on the picture, the white rounded plastic part. One is broken off.
hearing pwd72s said something about making my own... What I did was making a SS washer to concave shape to match with the reflective housing and force it in there. It works. The part which masraum posted from ebay is also broken (thread is stripped). New piece will strip again, for sure. I use a nut to weld to a big washer and rivet it to the housing. Works. Thanks everyone. Putting the LED bulb in there, visibility is bad, although it looks cool. I am thinking about MIY on the bulb base to fit an HID in there. let see. |
