Cool.....thanks, Jeff!

Jeff Higgins 05-22-2024 04:00 PM

Wow, talk about "changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes". From 10,000 foot passes with snow to the Aztec Ruins and a balmy 70 degrees.

Yep. Flew into Denver - the big clock on main street showed 101 degrees. Proceeded to drive up though Estes Park and down to Grand Lake - snow on the mountains...deer......Aspen Trees.....just majestic is the only way to describe it!

We ended up in Taos where she had a ski condo. :)

Enjoy, Jeff!

Our final scenic stop before arriving at our final destination of Santa Fe was Bandelier National Monument. Pueblo Indian ruins very similar to yesterday's "Aztec" (missnamed as such, actually Pueblo) ruins, with the addition of cave dwellings. Some pretty daunting climbs to get up into the highest of the caves.

I've tried to post pictures, but apparently all of the ones I have are too big. Anyone interested will have to Google it to get a look. We climbed up into the highest caves where access is allowed. Lots of fun.

Jeff Higgins 05-25-2024 08:19 AM

Ah, today marks our final day of R&R in beautiful Santa Fe before we point 'em west and beginning our journey home. We are only taking four days instead of the seven we took to get here.

astrochex 05-25-2024 11:30 AM

Thanks for sharing your epic journey, Jeff.

Off to google to find cave climbing pics.

Jeff Higgins 05-25-2024 11:47 AM

We were hoping to make it trouble free but, alas, here we are. Sounds like a CV. We're going to try turning it around. Fingers crossed ...

Yellow car is just a clutch adjustment.

Baz 05-25-2024 11:53 AM

Nice socks! :D

Good luck with the pit stop......no shortage of consultants and technicians!

Zen And The Art Of 911 Maintenance.

You are an animal, Jeff. .....but not everyone really lives. Do you also love the smell of napalm in the morning?

Jeff Higgins 05-25-2024 02:58 PM

Charlie don't surf ...

Success! Turning the axle around eliminated the noise. By no means a long term solution, it should see us through the mere 2,100 mile return trip to Seattle.

Jeff Higgins 05-26-2024 09:09 PM

All good things must come to an end... We said our goodbyes and rolled out of Santa Fe this morning. Spending the night in Page AZ.

Some really pretty country, but nothing really notable to entice us to stop. We'll be at the Grand Canyon tomorrow.

fanaudical 05-27-2024 06:55 PM

Epic road trip! Thanks for sharing.

Jeff Higgins 05-27-2024 08:18 PM

North rim of the Grand Canyon today. Overnight in Salina UT. Tomorrow is a big day, 490 miles to Winnemucca NV.

Wow. That's a view!!!

Jeff Higgins 05-27-2024 10:02 PM

Yes it is! Unfortunately, pictures just don't do it justice. My first trip to the Grand Canyon. Having seen photos of it all of my life, I thought I knew what to expect. I was wrong. It's pretty overwhelming in real life. Just spectacular.

Heel n Toe 05-28-2024 02:22 AM

Try to see Monument Valley, UT ...not too far from the canyon.

Well, we are kinda down to "travel mode" now, just rolling up miles to get home. All of the cool stuff is behind us. Spending the night in Salina NV, heading for Pendleton OR tomorrow. Lotsa bugs... And my buddy Karl's Norwegian flag is pretty well shredded, having embedded a bit of red thread into the bugs on my hood.

I have killed a lot of bugs on my many trips as well.

The MWRG crew got home Monday after two long days. 750 miles on Sunday and between 560 and 850 on Monday. After my 8 hour drive, I mowed the lawn and washed the car. SMH. The tire repair worked great and it’s all ready for the next adventure. 3,505 total for me.

Safe travels Jeff!

Jeff Higgins 05-29-2024 02:34 PM

Glad to hear you guys all made it home safely. Meanwhile, just south of John Day, OR.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1717018341.jpg

We'll spend the night in Pendleton, OR and head for home in the morning.

Baz 05-29-2024 06:27 PM

^^^^ Another fantastic photo, Jeff!

Thanks for bringing us along and all the cool pics. I'd love to do something like that one day....dang.....just so epic!

Jeff Higgins 05-30-2024 06:15 PM

Safely back home. Mt Index (along US 2 about 70 miles NE of Seattle) welcoming us home:

4,597 miles in twelve actual driving days covering nine states. Two of the finest travelling companies one could ever wish for.

Baz 05-31-2024 04:02 PM

Nice, Jeff.....love these photos! Dang.....just so cool.......

p911dad 05-31-2024 04:36 PM

Total thumbs up, I enjoyed your story of your adventure!

CurtEgerer 05-31-2024 06:32 PM

Great seeing you Jeff. It's been a while to say the least. Loved Brian's car - ya can't replicate patina like that and rarely - with the crazy values of early cars - do you see anything like it these days :D I finally got back yesterday. Fantastic trip.

Guardrails? It's only a 1000 foot plunge. Who needs guardrails?

The Chihuahua Tire Shop and Taco Wagon for the win!

The Midwest guys dedicated our trip to long-time friend and Porsche mechanic extraordinare Larry Marzano who we lost recently :( I was honored to drive his light yellow 1970 911E to Santa Fe.

It was great seeing you again, Curt. I had a fantastic time hanging out with all of the guys in the Midwest crew. Personally one of my best Treffens ever - the drive, the people, the location. It just doesn't get much better.

^^^ incredible trip for you guys  Just glancing at the map and looking at the future, the Black Hills seems to be about a halfway point between the PNW and MidWest (and Texas for that matter). Doesn't need to be connected to an event, just a straight up road trip.

Shaun @ Tru6 06-26-2024 05:24 PM

Looks like it was a fantastic trip Jeff, great pics and I'm sure an even better time was had. Love seeing all these cars being used. Glad you made it there and back safely with another notch added to your adventure belt.

Jeff Higgins 06-26-2024 08:06 PM

Thanks, Shaun. Truly an epic road trip. Nothing like your ride, but we did our best. ;)

MMARSH 06-29-2024 04:42 PM

Great Adventure. Nothing like a road trip in a fun car( or motorcycle), great roads and good company to share it with.

Jeff Higgins 06-29-2024 08:14 PM

Thanks, Michael. I know you have certainly had your share of similar road trips, I think mostly on your motorcycles. You are absolutely right - nothing like it. Cherished memories.

gsxrken 06-30-2024 04:24 AM

“Cherished memories” forced me to ring in here. You guys are to be commended for still making such memories. It’s far easier to stay home and live on old ones. In today’s age of cell phones, credit cards, and great tires, taking an air-cooled 911 out on an adventure is not crazy… nothing unrecoverable is going to happen. All of us over 55 lived through much rougher times (in my case at least) with much less preparation and with cars that were not as sorted out due to a lack of financial means. Didn’t stop us for a minute. For some folks, those days formed the sum total of their epic “cherished memories”. But you and your pals are in the <5% of us still getting after it and making new ones. Bravo, Mr. Higgins. Thanks for the pictures and the example.
