Holy Moly humongous fungus!
Just found this 1/2 hour ago outside my front door. Biggest Morel I’ve ever seen!
Mmm mmm! Gently fried in butter with scrambled eggs! ![]() |

Very nice!!
I have been skunked this year except for 6 small black ones in my yard. I usually find them over by sand lakes.

Nice! I have come across a few of those on our property but never have been brave enough to try one as my wife warms me that there are similar looking fungi that are poisonous.
Regarding 'humongous fungus'... in the way upper north of part of your state of Michigan (in the Upper Peninsula) is the REAL Humongous Fungus! It is estimated to cover 38 acres and weighs around 100 tons (https://absolutemichigan.com/michigan/michigans-humongous-fungus/ , https://lifeinmichigan.com/humongous-fungus-festival/ ). We live in Crystal Falls but have yet to see this monstrosity or attend the annual parades. This area is ABSOLUTELY beautiful - we moved from Alabama to the UP three and a half years ago and I love it (our first winter here was scary as I have never seen that much snow!).

I've seen lots of folks all over Texas finding morels this year. It seems to be a good year for them. That looks like a big one.
I've never seen one or eaten one.

If the stem is attached to the flower all the way around, it’s good. If the thing is like a partially-closed umbrella and open at the bottom you’ll see really great colors just before you stop breathing.

Wow, that's huge. A real beauty and you got to it before the flies.
Made a pretty good score a month ago but nothing of that size! ![]() |

I never say any Morels around my Vermont house... we did have a bunch of areas in the trees around my place where the Chanterelles would fruit 2-3 times a year... Good Eats..

If I had more motivation, I would train my pup to find truffles. We have them here in Western Oregon.
