One of the purdyer spoons out there. I like the aesthetics of the 5" and 6" model. I've got a 6" model 27.

![]() This fat boy snooping around the neighborhood caught on security cam. The ones around here really aren’t looking for a fight. Carry a freedom 83 in .454 casull anyway. |

Pretty funny routine on a problem all of us really hope we will never have. Just think of how much fun it would be trying to ram your fist down an unhappy bear's throat.
As far as Mr Shoemaker's 9mm incident, this had to be one of the most talked about episodes in the hunting world for years. The fact that he used it that one time, because it was what he had with him at the moment, by no means means that he recommends one. His "daily" bear gun is an old M98 Mauser in .458 Winchester Magnum. He has also been known to use a M71 Winchester rebarreled to .375 Scovill, a necked up .348 Winchester case. I was going to hunt with him one time many years ago but just couldn't make it happen. I ran through my list of rifles I thought I might bring, asking him which one he recommended. It came down to my Model 70 in .375 H&H or my #1 in .458 Win Mag. He said if I could actually shoot it, the .458 was much preferred. Wish I would have saved those post cards. |
