We've had several "glasses" threads over the years. You'll get lots of answers, but the stuff that comes up most seems to be Maui Jim, Costa, and maybe Oakley and Rayban?
I've had lots of sunglasses over the years, and I've been happy with just about anything above the $20-30 range. I used to mostly wear polarized. These days, I get a good quality lens from a prescription place with anti-reflective coatings and no longer do polarized. There are a bunch of glasses connoisseurs here.

pretty sure a bit over $150 but costas green mirror in glass is by far my favorite lens in sunglasses. the mj blue Hawaii is nice but horribly delicate and just not quite as nice to look through. I do prefer lighter frames and costas tend to be heavy but that green mirror glass lens is just soooo nice.

Just note that polarized film degrades/peels off over time. Depending on use, maybe 5 years? At least that's what the Oakley and Wiley-X guys say when I complained about my glasses...
Oakley and Ray Ban are now owned by Luxottica and have shipped off manufacturing to China, FYI if it matters to you. I might have one Ray Ban still made in Italy lying around somewhere. I find Oakleys comfortable for all day use, though if paying > $120 for put together shapes of plastic does not appeal to you, try others. Oh and I don't go fishing nor stay out in the water that long so take my advice with a grain of salt. Last edited by wildthing; 05-27-2024 at 06:32 AM.. |

Me a fishing fanatic. I have some Costa glass-lens sunglasses. In the above mentioned green. Sick glasses, but I rarely wear them. Why? They are heavy. Not how you think. Myself and 80% f the population will take sunglasses and put them up above my ballcap bill when I a not needing the sun protection. Like when I am tying a fishing knot and need the added brightness to see. When I look down at the knot, the added weight will slip them off my head and onto the ground. I nicked a lens doing just this. Pissed me off. BUY LANYARDS if you go this route. I wear old Native And Arnette glasses most days on the water. There is a company call Revant that sells replacement lenses and it’s a game changer. I breathed new life into my best fitting frames. I would buy plastic lense in Bajio or Costa. But my next pair will be Electric. They have models with side covers. Totally dope looking.

I feel Ciostas make frames for people with regular sized melons. I have extra wide frames and they still look goofy. Try them on.

Electric Sunglasses.
Side shields seem like a good idea.

I really like my glass Costas, but find as my eyes deteriorate, it's harder to see in low light conditions without a prescription.

Sucks getting old, have to tie with magnifiers and use readers to tie on anything smaller than a size 12. Fishing midges or tricos becomes a little bit challenging.

I'm partial to Oakley mainly because I can easily change the lenses for different conditions..
I have these in prescription Oakley Half Jacket and two sets of lenses..Granted these get expensive quickly especially if you want something like transitions lenses
