New summer beer offerings

Founders just started selling two of their most popular beers in 19.2 oz. cans. (some call them bombers)
$2.50 apiece and both very tasty on a hot day.:)

I would not want to drink more than seven or eight of those 9.5% IPA in a couple hrs. Things have changed in the USA, I remember all the beer being pretty low ABV.

^^^ Seven or eight in a couple hours...are you crazy? :D

Two in that time would be my max.

This one caught my eye.....very interesting taste for sure..very refreshing.

^^^ Don't think I've ever had a blueberry flavored beer?

I'd try it though.

I hate IPA's - but I'm all over red or brown ales - or stouts and porters! I drank 2 of the Founders Nitro Breakfast Stouts just last Thursday night.

Most everyday beer is low. 4 1/4%.

If you drank eight of the subject beers you would be black out drunk. The end. Most would be gone after four of those.

10 or 12 years back, when IPA's were getting to be real popular....most all of them had a very 'hoppy' taste. Many complained about that.

Now, a large portion of the IPA's are made somehow to cover that hoppiness.
Bell's Two Hearted is 7% ABV and it's called an American IPA. No hoppy taste to it all.
The Big Hearted IPA in the pic has just a hint of hops in it....it's very good tasting.

Lol, I would not even try. At 19oz each I have a pretty good idea what the next day would be like. That would be like four bottles of red wine, ouch.

Byron....
Lot's of money involved with all those SS tanks. My older brother opened a brewery up here about 10 years back...I was amazed at how much that stuff costs. He sold it last year...it was difficult after covid hit.

That first beer in your hand looks good....the cloudier the better.:)
Also...I see they are using QR code menu's. (from the last pic)

Bah! But for a few varieties, clarity has always been the goal for most every beer for a century. The recent hazy trend seems to have normalized it for giggles and profit - as if failing to get a good floc is covered by "Yeah, I meant to do that."

Zero-bittering dry hopping is undeniably tasty. can we just get away from canned and foamy miso soup?

Regarding "summer" beers, punchdrink.com writes that the growth in zero/NA beers (a good thing) seems to be cannibalizing the market for truly drinkable (4-5% abv) suds. That ales in the 6+% range get called "sessionable" is just silly if you're of normal size or want to drive. We even need more flavorful beers in the 3-4% abv range!

Two Hearted is awesome though but I guess the lighter Something-Hearted is going out of production. We get Founders here so I'll have to try the little one sooner than later.

When I travel, I like to buy a local brewed beer. I just don't care one bit for IPA beer. When I was in Vermont at one grocery store, 90% of the selection of beer was IPA. Blech. I just stuck with Yuengling lager. The opposite of a new beer, as it was introduced in 1829.

I still prefer German style lagers. Maybe it having two different family ancestors from Germany.

Consider that IPA, (India Pale Ale) was developed in England because they were sending ships around the horn, to India to supply their troops with guns, ammunition, uniforms AND BEER. Much of the beer spoiled on the long hot trip, so the English brewers added more hops, for its preservative properties. It worked, but to balance the additional bitterness, they had to add more grain, (Yeilding more alcohol and sweetness).
Since we now have refrigeration and the trip from brewery to drinker is much quicker, we no longer need more hops, but the style, IPA, endures.

Cheers

Ten years ago...I didn't like/drink hardly any IPA's.
Now, If a restaurant doesn't have a beer menu, I ask "What IPA's do you have?"

It's a taste that grows on you.

While I don't hate IPAs, I'm a bit irritated that almost every craft beer is now an IPA. I miss the early days of craft brewing when we had a wide selection of interesting items.

I’m a big fan of regular Bell’s Two Hearted, will have to try the “big” one!

jrj3rd 06-03-2024 09:54 AM

Talked to a brewer about the number of IPAs from craft breweries. He said adding hops covers up a lot of bad brewing flavors. Easiest way to get started.

They also sell this one...in limited areas. I've had it before and it's good, but too potent. (for me)
It's 11% abv.
