Are you ready for congestion pricing?
Living a couple hours from a likely city to use it....I won't have to worry about it.
If I lived near a major city....yes, I would def adapt my driving habits. The example they give of $15 for NYC would change the traffic. It's still not fair. :( https://www.yahoo.com/news/congestion-pricing-could-reduce-traffic-but-is-it-fair-to-ask-drivers-to-pay-up-100024711.html . |
They will change all the two lane roads into one, install a whole bunch of no turn on reds throughout the city, put up more stop signs where it was never necessary and slowly make those cities or areas congestion zone jsut to make us pay. That's what happening to us here in greater LA areas. Everything is chocked to death where traffic would flow before all this crap. Just more money.

The article doesn't mention how it would enforce/track each car?

In some foreign countries, they only allow cars into a certain cities based on the plate number that end or start with odd or even numbers. If they must go in for delivery or whatever reason, they must pay.
This will do really well for business with the city. Death of many business in those cities. In many of our cities, for the longest time, no parking payment was required, but once they got busy, business gone up, the city started to install meters all over those areas and brought in parking garages and stepped up meter maid patrol. I know a bunch of my friends and myself included refuse to go there for restaurants or do any business there. Parking is 20 bucks, meters are only for 2 hours and its 2 bucks an hour. Fk it, is what all say and go elsewhere. |
This to me is like a heavier tax on climate change. If we pay enough, it will slow down the change. Stupid people buy into this crap. Want to reduce traffic, ticket people heavily who double park blocking traffic. The dumb bicyclist who run reds, and do illegal stuff get their pocket book hard. Do it again, double the amount. If they don't pay it, impound their vehicle.

^^^ Hey..I don't blame you, that's crazy.
I'm near Grand Rapids and about the only places that requires parking fees are right in the heart of the downtown area. Every business or restaurant outside of there is 'free' parking. And the downtown area is always hurting for business.... |
In NY there will be a charge for going south of 60th st so heading from uptown to downtown once you pass 60th you will pay $15 add that to the toll of $7 or $13 depending on which bridge, or tunnel and that is a pretty big hit. My boss lives on 61st street and the other day it was closed for construction so to get to his place I had to go to 59th street and around. If congestion pricing was in effect, I would have had to pay $15 to go 2 blocks because I couldn't take 61st. the whole thing is ridiculous, it will actually cause more traffic uptown instead of less.

Ahh...I see. Thanks. |
Grand Rapids should have a bustling downtown with restaurants entertainments and such,no? Everyone's down town is nice but LA, its been a toilet bowl since I was old enough to know its a bad place to be. It has gotten a little better but not much.

^^^ 15 or 20 years ago GR was making a great comeback downtown. Now, after the city found every single spot to put a parking number on, it's fighting for business again.

The writing has been on the wall for decades...politicians who hate cars are doing all they can to get people out of cars.
|
The NY governor stopped the program as of last week, but now the NY pols are searching for another way to raise the $$$ that the program would raise. I guess at this point they have really revealed that it was all about the money dressed up as an environmental green thing. In NY it is always about the money, don't ever lose sight of that! The new money was to go to the MTA for subways to cover all the riders that jump the gates to ride for free. Typical NY deal.

Closest bus station is 30 miles away. Train....60 miles away. I'm not too worried about it....it won't happen in my lifetime. :) |
I thought Hochul killed it.

According to the article I linked...yes, she blocked it. |
NY just put it on Pause the plate readers are already up all over the city. They spent a ton of money installing the technology they are going to implement the plan sooner or later.
