Those guys looked like they had it easy! All ships crew had to go through shipboard firefighting back when I was in. Damage Control lockers didn’t have suits for all so, we trained in what we’d normally be wearing during GQ. Hoods and rebreathers only.

Personally, I loved that training and considered pursuing volunteer FF when I got out but, not as a full time career. Wouldn’t trade my decision to stay in Satcom systems Eng.

It’s funny, I can climb all over our largest antennas structures, harness or no harness and I mean all over including areas not meant for non-monkey hominids, no problems with heights.

However, the thought of climbing and maintaining radio towers makes me want to puke. I couldn’t be the guy climbing 1500ft to replace ACW lights.

I can’t/ won’t do most of the above.

I did work in an aluminum cast house at age 18. Herr O’s nightmare. Very hot and dangerous. Pay was amazing. 7 weeks paid for one year at UO.

I credit that awful job with giving me grit and motivation throughout my career. I saw the alternative.

Iron Worker hanging 'red iron,' nope. Law enforcement....my hat is off. Forum Moderator....my hat is off twice to Seahawk also a military veteran.

Lots of jobs I wouldn't do. In fact, all of them. I'm gratefully retired. BTDT.

Judge. The thought of sitting in judgement of individuals, often with incomplete information and very limited time and making a decision that will affect that person's life for a long time is something I wouldn'd want to do. The urge to bring down the wrath of the Gods on someone vs taking a more easy judgement is a situation I don't feel qualified to do. Send the guy to the hole or give him probation? I guess you follow the letter of the law, the precedents and see where that leads to the sentence. As I said, I don't want this job.

Me too! I worked in aluminum foundry the summer after I graduated from high school. Hot, noisy, lots of stuff to trip over or walk in to. It was hard to maintain situational awareness but you had to in order to survive. I don’t recall my pay being all that great.

For me, being a cleaner or kitchen hand.
I did both as a teenager for extra money. No thanks and never again.

Also... Money? If you're getting paid really well then an awful job may be doable.

Roofer. It’s blazing hot In the summer and freezing cold during the winter. Plus the heights.

Honey dipper. Servicing Porta Jons and septic tanks. Yuck. 🤮

Railroad tie retaining wall Installer. Nasty job working with used railroad ties.

Factory worker. Being cooped up inside all day, punching a clock. I worked at Boeing for a couple years. Never again.

Chef must be the worst. Antisocial hours. New deadlines every few minutes. Your work ruined if you stop concentrating for a few seconds. No wonder they all look super unhealthy and stressed as hell.

Also... The abuse of alcohol is very common amongst Chefs and kitchen staff.

Years ago I dated and Chef. As far as her work/career was concerned she was brilliant but she'd demolish herself with booze as soon as she got home.

It would be easier to be a preschool teacher.

I have a friend that worked with Anthony Bourdain in Provincetown Ma. in the early '70s. She said after work they would all go down to the beach and get hammered. I guess it is common among chefs.

law enforcement. Watching 10 minutes of any body cam video on youtube and the morons, scumbags, liars, and armchair Constitutionists they deal with would sap any patience right out.

I can't bring myself to watch Mr Bourdain now. Same with Robyn Williams.

Almost everything above is out for me.

I understand why LEO is not high on people's list but I also couldn't do 9-1-1 or Social Worker.
A 9-1-1 operatior has a feeling of helplessness when they talk to the callers but can't help them and they rarely find out if things worked out for the people.
Social Worker is a tough one because I would want to go off on adults who neglect or abuse a spouse or children.

Play in the NHL for the Toronto Maple Leafs because I will get my heart broken year after year when they can't win a cup.

Babysitting other people’s kids.

I ran the STEM club at our kids’ school again this year. In the past it has been an evening affair, with mandatory parent participation. This year, I ran it at the end of the school day. Never again. Ever.
