any modern gas cans that don't suck?

I've had a couple of these, and they work REALLY well, no spill, easy to use, etc...

Except that after about 2 years, the seam on the handle develops a leak. And at $43/ea, I don't like only getting 1.5-3years out of them. I've had a couple of others that had the same issue or had some sort of wonky mechanism that only pours when the spout gets pushed in, and that mechanism is the weak spot.

I'm around ready for some metal cans with a short spout, but there's got to be something better.

I think I'm going to give a couple of these a shot. They are $65 here locally, vs $43, but they should last a lot longer.

No-Spill works quite well. The only complaint I have is the spring on the push-to-flow button is very strong, and will fatigue your finger(s) somewhat. It doesn't leak or dribble. I've had mine for 10+ years now and expect another 10 at least.

Available at most outdoor power equipment dealers.

I haven't had an issue with plastic gas cans but the nozzles suck . I buy these from Tractor Supply and like them . I use them on gas and diesel cans .

Yep, I really like those (I currently have 2, one new and one 2-3 yo).

The new one was a dud, lid doesn't completely seal, so constant slow leak while filling.
And the old one just sprung a leak between the two arrows in the photo (not my photo). I have had 3 other plastic gas cans fail in the same place and same way. (seam on the handle starts to leak).

They sell kits to fix your gas can. Standard spout with a drill bit and vent hole cover.

What I need to fix it isn't a new spout. WHat I need to fix it is some sort of gas resistant RTV or JBWeld or something that bonds to the plastic of the can and keeps the handle from leaking.

The spout doesn't bother me and the NoSpill cans fill the mower really quickly.

What these plastic cans need is a relief valve that keeps the cans from inflating and deflating with changes in temperature which causes the handles to split/leak.

Truer words were never spoken. I discovered these some years ago and they're great. the little relief caps are easy to install too. They can be slightly loosened to let air pressure change within the can to keep the plastic handle area from splitting over time without letting too much fuel evaporate.

I bought a Surecan about 3 years ago. Love it! It drains from the bottom. I can set the can on the fender of my mower and fill the tank without having to stand there and hold the gas can.
If you are going to stand there and hold the can like the guy in the video does anyway, I don’t see the advantage.

Son just got one intended for race use, he says none of those baffles etc that make current new cans a PITA

Seahawk 07-07-2024 05:25 AM

I have two these, one for gas and one for diesel, have for a long time. Some of the new gas cans look excellent, btw.
