Big boy 4014

For those of us who love old iron:
Worlds largest steam locomotive is touring the west.
Being with friends by the tracks out in the boonies and have it go by is the plan.

Quite a sight. Well worth the time to see him. He is a LOUD sob.

I saw him in 2021 when he passed through Durant, OK.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1721324586.jpg

Saw him leave Truckee last weekend, timing was off as he went through Auburn.

Thing of beauty, gave me gooseflesh.

My first recollection is a day in December
Black iron steam engine covered in ice
Like some Precambrian monster
Moaning and snorting
Nothing was ever going to beat that beast
In a fair fight

I'm still disappointed that they cancelled the whole Pacific Northwest leg. I was really looking forward to following it up the Columbia river.

Great pictures, though!

On Jay Leno's Garage.

No, he does not have any trains yet, but this hour long video is cool!

If you have a local steam power show, it's worth attending.

That train is incredible (Jay Leno vid). I didn't know a steam train could be that big.

What did it cost to restore that monster?

Sooner or later 09-23-2024 07:00 PM

It is not just big. It is loud when he howls...really LOUD!

Sooner or later 09-23-2024 07:11 PM

They started restoration in August 2016. May 1st 2019 was the first time it moved under it's own power in nearly 60 years.

Don't miss seeing this piece of history if he travels near you.
