Auto insurance through Tesla

I heard they insure non-Teslas, so I plugged in my two leased EVs and the premium dropped from $5,800/year to $3,996/year with 13,000 miles/year for each car. You have to download the Tesla app on your phone (at least in CA) to get a quote. After you sign up, you can modify the coverages.

My previous policy was with AAA and I couldn't find a better rate (I didn't try too hard). The AAA policy benefited from bundling with my home and motorcycle policies. Tesla didn't care. I've heard the customer service from Tesla sucks, but I so rarely make a claim, it's worth it to save $3,600/year.

I'm only seeing where I can add a non-Tesla vehicle provided I currently have a Tesla. Am I missing something?

Looks like it's available in just 12 states, not including Florida. I did not know that...

Tesla also pings your computer to see if you've been naughty or nice.

There was an option to let them check the odometer automatically- is that what you're referring to? I went without that, but need to take a picture of the odometer reading in their app.

There is some sort of naughty or nice feature that affects your rate, but it's only in CA and it's in a beta phase, which doesn't affect rates. Not sure how that works.

I believe it uses your trip data and how you observe speed limits.

I nearly spit coffee on my screen when I read that. When my insurance went up to $3900 I thought I’d better check for a better price. I guess I won’t bother now.

I insure:
‘17 Tundra
‘17 Volt
1988 Porsche 911
1965 VW beetle
1956 Porsche coupe
1956 Porsche Speedster

$4k to insure one car? Does that price include a massage, a trip to Hawaii, and drugs to calm you down when you have to pay?
You don't want to know what I pay here is dumb old TN.

Two cars. Both EVs, which are more expensive than gas cars to insure.

It does include a romantic weekend with Elon.

And I thought my rates were high with Cosco Connect when both my wife's Tesla and my van went up to $2K/yr. with full coverage on both. We just had to have her wiindshield replaced at a cost of $1,552 of which we have to pay the $500 deductible.

Some of you have really low premiums. Let me know where I can get that in CA. I tried Costco, but they're not taking business right now.

I use State Farm Ins....$1800 for three cars for a full year.
They also cover my home insurance and having both brings a good discount.
