Jim Beam Distillery closing for the year 2026
The trend of less alcohol being consumed is real.
Meals at restaurants being expensive is compounded by the price rise of an alcoholic drink. 3% decline in micro breweries also.

Several long lasting micro breweries have closed or are closing. I think some of this is market saturation and growing too fast or poor management. Many had opened brew pubs/restaurants and gone way beyond beer production. Rogue Ales may be the poster child for this.
https://vinepair.com/articles/hop-take-rogue-ales-craft-brewery-collapse/ The cost of everything is crazy. A simple sandwich at one of our favorite pubs is now $19.95. A pint, $8 bucks. A six pack of a typical craft ale is $11-$15 bucks. My oldest daughter owns one of the longest lasting restaurants in our town. She is done. Food costs, labor issues, etc. have beaten her and her husband into submission. The place has been for sale for months now. No takers. They will shut down at the end of their lease.

A massive drop in US booze exports to Canada since the beginning of the year.
Hard to say what caused that.

Part of the general not leaving the house trend. That and cheap easily available weed.

Are people not leaving the house? My wife and I go out to eat a lot, and restaurants are seemingly always packed around here. I'm always amazed, it's as if no one works any more!

Do you go out and drink like people used to?
Younger generations seem to prefer brew pubs, and craft beer over hard liquor. |

FYI Rogue Ales is the victim of a large lawsuit for over serving. 4 people dead. $10M judgement. Not nearly enough insurance coverage.
Small world connection? My buddy referred me to Rogue to talk insurance. They didn't take the appointment. 170 jobs lost and I wonder if I could have changed this. Too late now. Beam? Other forces are causing this to sink. |

Microbreweries and dope stores are just everywhere. The market is just oversaturated.
I have never bought a bottle of Jim Beam in my life, so I guess it is not my loss of business that hurt them. I guess all the production will get one extra year of ageing.

Our local brewery, Red Clay Brewery, is also shutting things down for good. I will miss them. On the other hand, my brother-in-law, Brewzle TJ is forging ahead with distillery plans and his YouTube channel has gone crazy with over 800,000 subscribers. There was an article about him in Forbes magazine a couple of weeks ago, so, yeah not too shabby here.

And after all the different microbrews I still just prefer Bud or Coors on a hot summer day.

85% of their exports to Canada evaporated, I suspect more to come

Alcohol sales are clearly weak. Every major booze company is reporting poor sales, most have been doing so for a could of years or more. Diageo, Coors, Ambev, Heineken, Paul Ricard, winemakers, even the unstoppable Kweichow Moutai.
I don’t know that there is a “dramatic” move away from drinking - most of the people who drank before still do, I know plenty of young people who go to pubs and bars. I think high prices are squeezing consumption a bit, health trends a bit, legal pot a bit, it all adds up.
