Iran had F-14s that they got from us, and I believe still fly them (or did so until recently). The villain country was unnamed in both movies.

It's just a movie intended to be entertaining and sell tickets. I think both movies did a great job.

So I had to sit through the whole obscene thing...only good moment was when at a particular scene involving a flock of sheep...someone called out "No, no not the sheep...leave them alone".....which got a good laugh from the audience.

I have never come so close to punching a colleague in the head as after that travesty.

D.

PS - this was circa 1980...prior to the internet so no real way to check it out

Caligula would be at the top of my list for being the most unwatchable movie ever. It was the most disgusting, repulsive movie I remember ever seeing. Bob Guccione (from Penthouse magazine) financed it and was largely responsible for destroying it.

A work of Gore Vidal that he wisely scrubbed his name from. He was one of the students at a little boarding school featured in our local historical museum. It's amusing to remark on his connection to the movie with visitors (I'm docent). At some point I should have a look at the flick for curiosity but probably not to better inform the tourists coming through mild-mannered Los Alamos...

This is part of the reason I've started watching award winning classics.
Watched "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" a few weeks ago.

I've always wanted to work my way through one of those "top 100 movies of all times" lists.

Amazon Prime has a slew of old 1950's science fiction movies right now.

I just watched "It Came from Outer Space." Circa 1953, back when people were into aliens and flying saucer movies.

Yes it was bad, but in a good kind of bad. Short enough that you could see the end coming...

I think all those Wolfman, Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon type movies are there too.

Glee and any of the avengers movies make me want to cut myself.

Edit: Oh damn, I forgot - there was a cirque d soleil movie on the airplane, that was in the same league as glee.

I got dragged to The Bridges of Madison County. I figured if Clint Eastwood was in it it’s got to be good.
I was wrong.

I was trapped captive on an airplane for 14 hours and forced to watch Zoolander............

I tried to watch The Fall Guy, Bikeriders, and Kingdom of Planet of the Apes, and couldn't make it past the first 30 minutes of any. I find that shocking. In my lifetime, the only movie I couldn't watch to the end was Sheena, Queen of the Jungle. Now, in just one year, I've seen three more movies that are unwatchable.

Why is that? Am I just older and more demanding? Is Hollywood dying at the hands of Netflix, Prime, and such? Did they shoot all the writers? Are the effects of Covid still haunting the studios?

Seriously, there's got to be at least one person here that can tell me why movies have gone to hell in 2024.

I thought Sheena was an amazing movie. Though I only saw it once maybe 12 years ago or so. The opening scene anyway is in my top ten best scenes. As for unwatchable ones there are many. They were forgetable and iv forgot them. Thats the beauty of watching utube you can fast forward through them up to 2x speed. I see Sheena is free to watch on utube so im going to watch it again and see if its bad

Not that long ago I enjoyed all sorts of movies. If they were well done then that was good enough.

Today it can be a real challenge to find something enjoyable. The last movie that did that for me was The Accountant (Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J. K. Simmons - 2016).

And I don't know why! It's not Woke content because that's never bothered me.

It took a third try to get past the first 10 minutes of The Accountant. Once I did it it was really worth watching.

I refer to Avatar as SciFi Dances with Wolves.

The first time that I saw Zoolander, I didn't like it. The second time that I saw it, I thought it was very funny.

Yep. I figured "Tom Cruise is good, and Nicole Kidman in a sexy movie, should be great!" I was wrong.
