A few seconds into this one and I thought "are his ears broken?" but then, wow! Outstanding, love it!

I really did not expect the one guy's voice. He was meant to sing.

[QUOTE=wdfifteen;12319587]Other than just about any cover of just about any Bob Dylan song, /QUOTE]

I was thinking the same thing after posting Tamborine Man this am. One thing to cover with x-parts harmony and another thing to create it.

Tangled Up in Blue needs to stay with him. I'm sure covered but I am not looking.

This is powerful.

One of my favorites, and yes, better than the original.

Pretty much anything that she does is excellent!

Absolutely. I really like the Leonard Cohen version, but I love the Concrete Blonde version.

THere are about a million versions of this one by Gershwin.

It is tough to be Louie and Ella. Their version is tangible, almost makes me feel like I've got some sort of synesthesia

But, Janis...

masraum 09-12-2024 05:32 PM

I'm not sure if anyone can top Ella on this one (and I believe she's not the original)

So many things to choose from...

Does it count as a cover if some of the original performers are involved?

Playing For Change and their awesome productions like The Weight with Robbie (and Ringo), or Jackson and Doctor My Eyes...

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ph1GU1qQ1zQ?si=h6JAQownJk0ug3pO" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VQPD17v6eLU?si=3YoSEBLx4tqJ81Km" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Or if that isn't enough, then how about Billy Strings - from acoustic Floyd to Black Sabbath to the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald....

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ho2w8BP98wM?si=JZ5RyOVIh-cYxoH7" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>

All in all, fairly straight covers, nothing unusual other than the amount of skill....

What about the style reworks like what Post Modern Jukebox does? Or the acapella versions that Home Free and others come up with? So many good things to possibly post....

masraum 09-12-2024 05:37 PM

How about...

Lots of good stuff in this post. Yes, I like a lot of the Post Modern Jukebox stuff.

Can't figure out how to post a video with my phone, but I'd have to toss in a vote for a fellow Pelican's band's rendition of Beast of Burden. I like the Big Head Todd version more than the Stones' original one.

Many excellent contributions.

And agree with what has been said....in the eye of the beholder many times it's debatable which was better...the original or the cover.

With that in mind.....
