Audi Q5 steering....
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1726938934.jpg
Hi All, This is my daughter's car. 2014 Audi Q5. She complained the steering was not right. It felt notchy. She took it to our local indy shop. He said to take it to the Audi dealer and get it reprogrammed. It has 50k miles on it and she bougt it used. The Audi dealer checked it for any recall and there was none outstanding. I had a ppi done prior to her buying it and they said there were no issues. To the credit of the Audi dealer the mechanic took a pic of the steering shaft and found a crack in it. My daughter approved of their fixing it by replacing the part. Meanwhile $1200 cdn or about $900 us. I imagine the part was quite expensive. There is a suggestion that it might have been in a previous accident to cause damage like that. Or could it be caused by normal wear and tear? Your thoughts would be appreciated!:) |
You could take it to a body shop to have them look for other evidence.

That is pretty scary. Water getting in there somehow?

It looks like there’s stress lines running in the same direction all the way round.
I’d expect a smack hard enough to do that would have messed up the washer next to it and that looks fine. I’d guess crappy material. |
I don’t know why, but good on your daughter, noticing the steering issue and getting it fixed before something bad happened. 🙌🏽

Maybe add your situation to: https://www.carcomplaints.com/Audi/Q5/2014/
"The worst models are the 2015 A3, 2014 Q5, 2017 Q7, 2011 A4, and the 2013 A4." (5 recalls and lots of TSBs, but I didn't see anything about the steering shaft itself.) Failed after 10 years..is power steering pump not working, needs new fluid, or tie rod/ball joints stiff? Something that puts added stress on the shaft? |
Looks like rusting and swelling to me. Failed seal?

Thanks everyone that replied. I will pass on your comments to my daughter and I will get her to read these.
Cheers, Guy. :) |
