If you came into "stupid money"
I was talking with a buddy about an investment we made that is pretty high risk and has the possibility of doing well. It could go bust FWIW, no lectures please. But the conversation was regarding what we would do should the stars align and we came into stupid money.
My initial answer? Nothing. I don't really need a shiny new toy. Or anything similar. I live a great life and don't pine for anything. Then, the friend suggested a big family vacation. I thought that sounded great. Take a whole bunch of people somewhere cool and foot the bill. That's probably on the list. But then the cat was out of the bag. And I started dreaming. And I can dream pretty expensive things it seems. E-type. 911 S with mechanical fuel injection. Duetto. Big block Torino with a top loader. Speedster. Since I 1) will probably NOT come into stupid money. And if I do will 2) not be able to reverse the lifetime of frugality that has served me very well. But the question is - What would you do with stupid money? |
Put it into an investment account and have the interest go into my checking account.

An '89 speedster and upgrade my drinking habits.
|
^^^I jonesed hard for an 89 Speedster once upon a time. What an epic ride!

Travel...The world... A few times... Chasing an endless Summer (first class all the way).
Materially I have more than enough but with stupid money I'm sure I'd find a way to spend more. |

As for the Speedster.......eh......close enough......:p http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1727756792.JPG |
I'd start out with an SVRA/Historic Racing Team.....running a McLaren M8 or Shadow Can-AM, a F5000, a late 80's 962, and a 1990's F1 (V10-V12)......are 4 Groups per weekend too many for one man???
After that, I'd figure out a way to spend some real money. :D |
|
What is "stupid money"? I mean even the current Powerball jackpot of $275M is stupid money for me. I'd get all the cars I want on my list - a 993, a long hood, maybe a 997 GT3, an E type, a new Lexus GX550. Rent Laguna Seca and Sonoma and a coach for private track days. I'd get a house in San Francisco with views of the Golden Gate Bridge, an apartment in Manhattan... and then travel the world. Maybe even travel the world and ship the cars so I can drive them on the Nurburgring, or other world-famous tracks...

Put the money somewhere it earns interest; live off the interest; quit my job; fix the house; sell the house and move further out into the country; start traveling to see people that miss and haven't seen in a long, long time...

A simple, new mid size (or full size?) short bed pickup truck with the biggest engine they offer.
Pay someone to get rid of the interior squeaks in the 911s. They drive me nuts. INvested it and live off interest and all that boring but necessary stuff. Give all my "good" workmen a bonus of 50k this year in cash. Fook uncle sam and their spending on homeless and illegals Pay for my friend's daughter's classmate's college education and her living expenses. Get her a used reliable car so she can come home to visit her mom. She comes from an immigrant, single parent household. Mom's bearly scraping by with a job at a fast food joint. Can't afford glasses so she doesn't drive at night. This young lady's situation sucks and she refuse any help. She's got grit, and I like that. Other then that, I am not sure what I would do? Maybe not change a thing? |
Oh, I forgotten to add that my wife would like to safari in Africe and joint a small tour and do an eco tour across the Amazon. Enter from the pacific side and pop out of the Atlantic side.
|
Honestly? I hope to never find out .... but I'd give most of it away ASAP ... 'cause I don't need or want the ha$$le ;).
Most of y'all just won't understand me .... Sometimes I don't either :D Good luck ... hope ya hit it bigly :)! |
The local Health Center wouldn't have to worry about their budget.
Same thing with the kids hospital in Halifax. Ditto for Hope For Wildlife, an animal rescue centre here in Nova Scotia. Best Les |

Stupid money?
For myself: I would travel with my family and make memories I wouldn't mind a small house on John's Island outside Charleston; A sizable piece of land with giant oaks and a dock. I would spend more time volunteering to find turtle nests on the beach. I have 2 siblings who I would pay off their mortgages and make sure their kids were set for college. I think I would start a couple college scholarships. I'm pretty simple at this point in my life. |

In all seriousness. Retire, sell everything here, buy some land and build an a frame in Tenn, or N Caroilna, Spend my days doing volunteer work , or somehow, give back Oh , and a GT3 |
Nordhavn 41 and a home on the ICW to park it. It’s the only thing I dream about having if I win Mega Millions
|
Knowing myself, I'd buy nothing. I'd save it reasoning I might need it some day. Then I'd b!tch about the taxes and being poor.
Yeah, I have issues. Haha |
