OMG, just like the 1980s!

I told my wife I was going to run up to the corner grocery store for more bananas. I eat a lot of them. I got some apples as well. It is just 1/2 a mile away.

A company named Atwoods Ranch and Home just opened a new store right across the street from the grocery store. The first two weeks it was nuts busy, and they had people parking on the grass lot in front of their property. The regular lot was just full, and the place was nuts, so I figured I could wait a couple of weeks.

I had left my phone at home (gasp) as I planned to be gone 5 minutes. Atwoods is like Tractor Supply on steroids. Everything from many different types of feed, deer corn. cowboy boots and farm clothes. I ignored all of that. I started in the tools and automotive area. They have a decent selection of bolts, plumbing supplies. lawn and garden chemicals and fertilizers, and power hand tools.

I made it to the other end of the store, and they have a nice gun store, and a large selection of ammo. I browsed the guns from small concealed carry, to huge 357s, rifles and shotguns. I picked two boxes of 9mm Blazer target rounds. 13 bucks for 50 per box.

I paid cash, and got a bag of free popcorn for my wife. I got home and got the third degree, were was I, and why did I not have my phone. The popcorn was a genius move on my part as it quieted her anger.

I was gone for almost 30 minutes and no phone! How did we survive the years from birth to getting cell phones? I did just fine. Don't get me wrong, I love my phone and will never give up a smart phone. I love it's functionality and it is my second brain.

LOL!

Nice. My wife often doesn't check her phone, so I'll text or call and get no response, which is normally not a big deal, but if I'm going to the store, it's not unusual for me to need to contact her "they don't have X, do you want me to get Y instead" or something like that. But what makes it worse is that her laptop is also a Mac, so she gets texts and calls on her phone AND laptop. She's got an apple watch too, but never wears it, so that's also not helpful.

Atwood’s is great!

I periodically have to be in areas where I can’t have my phone. Drives my wife nuts, even though I tell her in advance. God forbid we can’t have immediate contact!

I was happy to find they carry nuts and bolts, PVC pipe fittings, and lawn and garden stuff. One area I skipped was just for horse owners. Ain't gonna have a horse. My wife is happy they have mulch and soil and her garden stuff.

Atwoods is headquartered in Enid, OK.

Closest one to us is about 20 minutes, my wife always find some decorating nonsense when we go in there. They have pretty decent prices on ammo and steel targets.

I come home with guns all the time now, usually a couple a month. Mrs. Lee doesn't really care anymore since she just assumes they're for flipping via my FFL.

We don’t have an Atwood’s but speaking of spouses and phones, Ms Rocket’s use of a cell phone is beyond frustrating, when it’s in the purse, left at home, volume off, etc. There are times I’ve really needed to talk to her and once called 20 times. No answer. 🙄

I use my phone all day for work, with emails, texts, pictures, etc. If she calls, I answer. Unless I sometimes don’t want to…. Haha.

Yep, same. Often volume off, and left laying someplace in the house where she isn't.

The funny thing, is that my wife gets frustrated when people don't answer texts or emails promptly, but she doesn't always answer texts or emails promptly.

I have 4 guys now that will meet for BBQ lunch, and then go have some "powder therapy" at a local range. They are all buddies, and all enjoy using a cordless hole puncher.

The range is one where if one feels like spending a lot of money, they can rent one of the full auto Uzis, AK-47s, or a dozen other sub machine guns. You have to buy the ammo from therm if you rent their guns.

We will each bring our own pistols and ammo. One of the guys reloads, so I just give him my brass.

I tend to mimic the behavior of my friends and family when it comes to texting. If you respond quickly, I pretty much do the same to you. If you're one of those that has a casual approach to responding, I know I've got time to respond.

If I had a dollar every time I heard “where is my phone” I’d have several Porsches. Or dropped phones, or leaving it on the car roof and driving away, or leaving it on a shelf at the store….

I was at my brother's house one afternoon and my car was parked in the driveway. At the time I was driving my E46 330i. The boys were playing basketball.

On my way home, about 25 minutes later, my brother calls asking if my nephew's phone is in the car. Not sure how or why it could be but I ask my son to look around but it's not inside the car.

My brother asks me to look ON the trunk. He was looking at the tracking app and could see the phone going down the highway at 80.

I pulled over and sure enough, it was up against the lip spoiler. I guess the silicone case and the wind pinning it down held it there despite some high speed on/off ramp pulls.

I enabled "find my" on my wife and my phones, because she's always asking me to help her find her phone. I always either have mine, or have set it in one of a few places that I always set it. My wife never puts her phone in the same place twice. It's great to be able to cause the phone to start dinging or to view it's location on a map (Oh look, you left in in the car). Fortunately, my wife almost never leaves it someplace (like a store). I think it's happened once or twice over the years, but it's super rare.

I'm pretty good at hanging onto my phone but I have a close friend who has lost more iPhones than seems possible. He's a little older than me, (he's 74), but it really isn't age related because he's been doing it forever and he's generally sharp as a tack. I think that it's more of a generational, hates cell phones thing that I've seen in a lot of boomers. I'm unfortunately addicted to my phone as a tool and it never leaves my side, generally speaking. I rarely misplace it other than losing it in the shop when I set it down sometimes.

He lives in NY and 3 weeks ago, I could not reach him. It started going straight to VM on no rings, I was getting concerned because even if he lost his phone, he would have to quickly got another one and more than a week went by. He lives alone and I was this close to jumping on a plane because I figured that he must be in the hospital or worse when it finally occurred to me that I have his grown daughter's number in my phone. I knew that she lived in Europe at least part of the year but I gave her LA phone number a try.

I had been emailing him, I was really starting to worry. She answered right away and I told her that I was looking for her dad, she said, "he's right here!"

"Are you guys in LA or ?"

"No, we're in Germany."

To make a long story long, he lost his phone over there and could not get another one until he returned to the states plus he could not get into his email on a strange computer because of 2-factor authentication and he did not have his phone to recieve the texts!! Total nightmare but otherwise was having a pleasant visit with his daughter and grand daughter in Bavaria, where she lives since her mother died a couple of years ago. Her mom was German and a pretty famous model, total bomber.

Huge relief, if I had not had her phone number I was on a plane to NYC and would have been in a hotel knocking on the door of his empty apartment.

Silicone cases are the name of the game both for protecting the screen in drops and yes, sticking to surfaces. I've driven away and pulled over to find my phone somewhere on the car many times.

Glad it worked out. Sounds like a nightmare!

I've been using thin cases with silicone skins forever. I once bought something else, that turned out to be a fairly hard, slick plastic which is lacking one of the most important parts of a phone case, the ability to make the phone harder to drop. If the case is grippy, then I'm less likely to drop it and it's less likely to get broken so a thin, light duty case is plenty. I think I've driven off with my phone on a car twice, and both times were probably ~20 years ago.

Yes, a silicone case is priority one.

Oh yeah. I’ve had to call and help search for her phone multiple times.

I keep my phone in my front pocket. I don’t understand why she can’t keep hers in a pocket.

Ladies slacks/shorts/pants don't have proper pockets.

We have a local store that has everything from grade 8 hardware, plumbing, auto care, deli counter, local wines and beer (not that I care about beer), groceries and most importantly: FRESH cheese curds! You know, warm and squeaky ones.

Atwoods is great. I like going there just to be around the kind of people that shop there.

Don't ever let a woman lecture you about phone use. They are pretty poor at responding to calls, texts and emails.
