Those pesky bots....

I've pointed them out numerous times, even PM'd WD recently .... the 21K active bots right now are no longer "latent" ... I can't reach the forums the past couple of daze... a classic "denial of service" .... HTTP 503 error.

Does anyone know or GAF?

Ya gets whats ya paze for...

OCROTD :D

^^^ any guesses ;)?

shadowjack1 11-08-2024 04:11 AM

I had a hard time logging on for the last few days as well.

stevej37 11-08-2024 04:12 AM

I've been getting the 'Denial of Service' message also the last three days. Clearing browser data doesn't seem to help. The only way I could get to the forum was wait and restart.
It did it to me this am once so far.

Past few days a random " website not available " message appeared while trying to log in . Happened again earlier this morning but now no issues .

Let Eric at Pelican Parts know via PM.

The staff is really good and responsive and, most importantly, if I tried to do anything about the issue the Bots would multiply:D

Same here, lately.

Why are they picking on PPOT or are they doing it elsewhere and what do they gain by doing whatever it is they do?

911 Rod 11-08-2024 05:28 AM

I've been blaming it on my crappy internet service.

Point Eric to this thread .... the site has been unreachable for the most part for 2.5 days ... forget logging in or a PM ...

There are aporox 10K "active users" right now. I've started several threads urging "nip it" ....

Eric, your site is being blocked by a Denial of Service the past two days .... likely at a low level protocol ...

Fix it please .... Wayne seemed to be aware a few days ago ....

I used to "live" this stuff ... it's obvious from my perspective ... that'll be $19.95 ... for my .02 worth :D

KFC911 11-08-2024 09:39 AM

Now there are 16K bot users ...

Sent you a PM...I have no acumen to explain what you know to him. That is a compliment!

KFC911 11-08-2024 09:55 AM

There are now 23K active bot users .... at some bot count, the site will not be reachable...

HTTP error 503

stevej37 11-08-2024 10:00 AM

What should I use to spray my computer to kill the Bots? :D

pwd72s 11-08-2024 10:01 AM

Yep, happens pretty frequently now.

MBAtarga 11-08-2024 01:06 PM

They are all logging in to check out the picture of roof girl :)

stevej37 11-08-2024 01:14 PM

I tried to log-off this morning and it came back with the message 'denial of service'

Eric at Pelican Parts 11-08-2024 03:44 PM

Strange, I haven't had any issues getting on the Pelican forums whether I'm logged in or not. I'll let my more techy colleague know though, and see what we can do to take care of this.

Eric at Pelican Parts 11-08-2024 05:30 PM

One of my colleagues was working on this earlier in the afternoon, and we shouldn't be having any more denial of service errors. I've been told it was bots + a session timing issue that was bogging down the forum.

We have been blocking ISP's, but its tough when they're coming from all over the place. Let me know if you guys are still running into issues and I'll pass it on.

stevej37 11-08-2024 05:38 PM

^^^ Thanks!

Thank you Eric! I was on the site when the "bot count" went from over 25K back down to zero (temporarily) .... it's now at 15K. But the site can handle 15K concurrent bots .... it croaks at around double that.

These totals are 10x what they have been just a few days ago ...

There is still a clean-up on the bot aisle needed ...

I would do an analysis of these 10-25K bogus IP connections.... there IS a common denominator .... trust me ;).

Whack-A-Bot .... in a spray can .... good luck... it hasn't been fixed yet... but the site can handle this threshold....

Whew :)!

Keeps doing that to me as well.
