My series II Coupe was a 76 and my series III cars were an 85 and 87. I don't think they were unreliable. Your friend's experience was an anomaly. I will say they required more maintenance than cars of the period. The in board rear brakes were something that was a pain. They still had serviceable grease fittings everywhere when many Japanese and US cars had gone to sealed fittings in the suspension, etc. This made regular service, if hired out, expensive and many were neglected. Plus if stored outside, the gas tanks took on water due to the fuel cap design causing fuel system issues. They were quirky sure, but if you knew what to look after, just like an old Porsche, they were fine.

I have a 2024 F150 Powerboost. The hybrid version. Knock on wood mine has almost 10,000 miles on it and it's been great. However, go on the forums or Facebook groups and you'll read about a number of customers forcing Ford to buy them back, etc. Every car maker and model has stories like that.

Whelp, my XJ6 is up for auction on Bat, less than 2.5 hours and only at $3500. NO RESERVE AUCTION. We'll see how it does, but this is the conclusion to this adventure:

Seems like a hell of a deal! Hopefully, you get more for it. It seems like it's worth it. The only thought that I have is that it might have been a good idea to clean the protective blue off of the white walls before taking the photos.

I kind of wish I was in the market, but I am absolutely not in the market.

I tried and wound up scuffing one of the whitewalls a tiny bit so I gave up. Now they're 'sealed' brand new for the next owner lol

11.5 doesn't seem too bad. Hopefully, you are happy with what you got. I think the new owner got a pretty cool car. With the E-type extras (intake, carbs, 4spd) and being the early car, it's very, very cool!

Nice Series 1 XJ! I have a 1969 thats been in the family since new thats still waiting restoring but was seriously thinking about bidding on your car as I love the XJ with a manual gearbox and 3 SU's. Hope it goes to a good home!

I'm happy, buyer is happy, life is good. It's a fantastic car, and I'm glad I got to bring it back to life and make some memories with it. Everything is temporary!

Time for the 72 Bavaria to go under the knife, and I'm excited about it!

I am glad it worked out. It is a cool car and I enjoyed the videos. Would love to see more of the Bavaria. I just bought my 1st "vintage ish" BMW, a German market 1999 323Ti and would love a some point to either pick up a 2002 or Bavaria.
