Fortunately, I had an appointment for a cleaning the very next morning. Turns out I had a vertical fracture in that tooth that went all the way to the root. "There is no fixing it, it has to come out and you'll need an implant." He gave me a referral to an oral surgeon. When I called they didn't have an opening until late January! I was going to be eating soup for 2 months! In a few mintutes they called back and said they had a cancellation the very next day. Hell yes I'll take it!
Now I have an extra hole in my head, waiting for the stud to heal for an implant, but no pain or discomfort whatsoever. I really, really lucked out.

What'd they give you as the healing time before implants? I'm in the middle of this currently, myself...two front teeth. Had them removed (one was already fake from a childhood incident) beginning of October. They had to do some bone grafting on the empty space where the fake tooth had already been for 30 years. Gave me a "heal time" of 4 months before they'll put in the implants.

I don’t recall, Guy. They pulled the tooth and that had to heal. They installed the socket, and that had to heal. Then they installed the stud, and that had to heal. Then they made a mold for the new tooth. Then they installed the tooth. The whole process took about 6 months, maybe?

Just went through that. Started in June. Hurt for a couple days (Fri/Sat). Was able to get a Monday appt (moved a cleaning up a month), but it wasn't hurting, just uncomfortable. At the time, the crack was too small to see. Spin ahead to October and the filling falls out, back to the dentist who pulls out both halves. Full blown infection ate away the bone. Never was all that painfull. The pulled tooth was worse.

Four months is standard, then the implant has to heal for four more months before the new crown can be placed on the implant.

Ask me how I know. . .
