Herta announced as Cadillac test driver

Don't know much about him so not sure if that is the best choice or best of who is available choice

Team has Perez and Bottas so no need for an experienced F1 test driver

That explains the strong rumor Herta is going to F2 next year to get superlicense points - at which point IMO one of Perez or Bottas will get the boot.. For the record, he is a very good indycar driver, a daring passer... He was #2 in the Indy championship a while back, further back this year but it's indy, where the races are rough and yellows galore, and sometimes luck is a big factor. IMO he belongs in F1... as much as if not more than a Colapinto/bearman (note I avoided getting Stroll into this, LOL).

Captain Ahab Jr 09-03-2025 11:19 AM

I'm please for Herta, his chance to shine in F1, not many get that chance

Stroll should 100% be included in not belonging in F1

I'm changing F1 teams end of this month, had a social lunch yesterday with a good friend, someone senior in the AMF1 team, he asked why didn't I tell him I was available

Was brutally honest and said, I've no desire to help a one driver team, it's not how manufacturer championships are won

If Laurence is serious about winning, which he will be, he'll have to put winning before blood when the AMF1 car is fast enough to win races

Got to love these cartoons.

^^^ and Cap't. The cartoon take on Aston is pretty funny, to your point

Carlos at the end just had me in stitches.

I saw an interesting video that Hamilton’s setup was changed remotely between the first and second practice without his or his Engineers knowledge after they spent hours getting the setup the way Hamilton likes it. Apparently they have data guys at the HQ that use AI simulations with the data and have free rein to make changes at will.

Not a great confidence builder for a driver (and Engineer) on a team.

What is the source of this detail? Pit (be it at the track, or England) to car comm, other than direct comm with the driver, is banned. The driver is supposed to drive the car "unaided" (ya, we know, they don't) save for real issues, like a fault mode shows up. That's why you don't hear strat mode call-outs every radio comm anymore. Not only is that (remote changes), as a possible policy, illogical,* but what driver, TP, strategist or driver's engineer would agree to that? More likely, if a better setup, mode, or strategy is identified, it is related to the team to implement, not changed on the fly and discussed later.

*(it was once reported - w/out facts demonstrated - that Senna complained to the Honda motor engineers that he wasn't pleased with their tinkering with the engine performance from the pits while he was driving)

Super weak link if a change is made without the track team knowing. Also seems stupid that a change is made without vetting by Hamilton’s crew.

Teammates Herta and Lando Norris in British F3 circa 2015. Norris said Herta was on another level in high-speed corners:

I was a big fan of his dad, and I would LOVE for Colton to succeed in Formula cars. But I think he'll fizzle out. He might not even be Logan Sargeant material. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Today is the 50th anniversary of Niki Lauda's 1st WDC. He was definitely my favorite F1 driver. Jackie Stewart, Ronnie Peterson, Gilles Villeneuve, Alan Jones, Carlos Reuteman, Jody Scheckter...

I loved reading about the exploits of the risk-takers in the pages of Road & Track, as written by Rob Walker.

As an aside, I enjoyed the results of the race at Monza today, too. A very popular victory at my house.

Lollypopman is doing fewer of these a year, but it's working. They're each much funnier
