Sling TV

Anybody using Sling TV ? My YT TV went up to $83 per month. Looks like Sling has 46 channels for $27.50 and that will get me all that I need. Has anybody on here tried Sling and are there issues ?

Sooner or later 12-14-2024 02:48 PM

I have had it for 4 years or so. No issues.

Thanks. I think I will give it a try. Is a contract required ?

Never had Sling TV....but I still have Sling Box.
It doesn't work anymore...they quit supporting it.

JackDidley 12-14-2024 03:03 PM

I just looked at the Sling web site. It seems the $27.50 is just the first month. After that it goes to $80. THat is not worth changing.

JackDidley 12-14-2024 03:14 PM

Went back. Looks like $40 for one service and $55 per month for 2 services. May be worth it.

Sooner or later 12-14-2024 03:25 PM

Starting this month it going up go $61 for Blue and Orange combined.

They also offer a gazillion free channels. To make your guide manageable you can create a favorites guide.

Signed up for one month. Will see how it is.

Looks like all I need. I went through the menu and it is about 80 channels. I will give it a couple weeks . I have most of it figured out but still need to try and record a show. I can pause my YTTV for 8 weeks and still go back to it if I want.

Yeah... I'm a "Slinger". Haven't found a better deal yet for a pay service. I have the Orange plus Blue service. They just jumped their price by $5.99 per month. It think it'll be about $65
Only problem is, if you like local network channels you need an OTA antenna. I don't mind so much since I can pull local from Lima and Ft Wayne which sometimes gives me more options for Sunday football games.

JackDidley 12-15-2024 07:03 AM

I signed on for orange and blue. . Says $55 + taxes. I already had the antenna so no problem with that. Clicked around last night and its just a bit different than YTTV. I will get used to it. I can pause YTTV for 8 weeks and go back to it, no hassle.

I currently pay the $55 plus taxes which puts my bill at about $59 per month. Here's what I got by email on 11/30/24

"Thank you for being a Sling customer. We hope you are enjoying your Sling subscription during this exciting time for TV with top sports, premieres and news coverage. The price we pay to provide you with the programming you enjoy continues to increase well above the pace of inflation. We actively fight every day on your behalf to keep costs as low as possible. However, due to these rising costs, effective on or after 12/20/24, your Sling subscription will increase by $5.99 per month."

Don't be shocked if the price bumps on the next billing cycle. Still pretty much the best deal for live TV streaming that's out there. I considered Philo TV because they were the cheapest option but they don't have any sports channels.

I have Blue with the $5 "entertainment" add-on for a total of $48.21. It's been good. I like that you can watch live TV on every channel but every channel also has a streaming section built right in and you can go watch all kinds of stuff without even watching whatever is live right now.

I also have the AirTV option, if you have a standard home antenna you can hook the AirTV up to your antenna and router and all your home local channels will show up in the channel listing right with all the pay stuff.

the AirTV has been great sometimes if I'm traveling and some of my buddies want to watch a game that's on regular tv at home but unavailable wherever we are; I just log into my sling account and we can watch my OTA channels from somewhere else.

With the increase it is still $22 cheaper than YTTV. I will take it for a test drive and see how it is.

I've literally tried every Live TV streaming service that exists except for Philo. I couldn't find anything that represented a better value for the channels you get than Sling. For the cost difference, I added Netflix and already had Prime Video with my Prime membership. At a point I had Netflix, Prime, Hulu and Disney Plus (with my Verizon plan) and there were times where I STILL couldn't find anything to watch. It'll be interesting to get your thoughts on it versus what you had with YTTV. Sadly, I think all live TV streaming services will keep climbing every couple years.

I have Prime and a hacked Firestick on a TV with a Google OS. Maybe 200 channels that suck. So far the only thing I dont care for is the Sling menu . I will adapt to that I think. It always seems to be a thing when I try a new service. Its winter time so not much going on outside so I spend way too much time watching Youtube videos. :(:(

cabmandone 12-15-2024 09:32 AM

Yeah I'm not fond of Sling's guide/menu either. It just doesn't seem intuitive.

Baz 01-06-2026 09:30 AM

Any new opinions on using Sling TV?

TIA!

Gogar 01-06-2026 10:58 AM

They just "updated" their guide structure and I fking hate it.

otherwise the same
