Marathon Bar (candy)

Anyone else fondly remember these? Discontinued in 1981. When I was a kid, I would walk with my grandma to the corner store and I would get one of these and I still remember walking the sidewalk back chewing on these amazing candy bars. At least my memory says they were amazing. Were they really so great? Why did they disappear if they were so great? I guess there’s a candy bar called the Curley Wurley that is similar but I have never seen one in the wild. Anyone try one of those?

I feel like we discussed this here before but maybe I dreamt that

I was counting on you to say you had a large surplus stashed in a fallout shelter and would be interested in a trade. Oh well

Cool. I will order some from amazon and see how they compare to what’s in my memory

Seems to me that a lot of the new stuff is not like the old stuff. Hohos and hostess cupcakes are a few that are nothing like they were, especially Hohos

If you had some Cadbury Eggs...I would find something to trade with you.
I'm a seasonal candy eater...I look forward to the C eggs.

Once in a while I'll buy a Heath Bar....love toffee.

I remember those. Supposedly, it was impossible to eat fast because it was so big and chewy. Maybe too many kids lost fillings and parents boycotted em?

Or was it the Patrick Wayne sex scandal of the 1970's

I loved Marathon bars, but didn't get them often. There wasn't much to them from what I remember. THey were just caramel coated in chocolate.

I remember Marathon bars for sure. Used to ride my bike to the ShortStop convenience store in Speedway, IN and get them all the time. IIRC, they cost a little more than a regular candy bar - like 25 cents versus 15 or 20 for everything else.

Wow, some of those bring back memories!

I liked Chick-O-Sticks, Turkish Taffy and because we were near Annabelle's in Hayward, Abba Zabba's and Rocky Road bars.

Another was Cup-O-Gold, mostly available on the west coast...
