Yeah, I think one of the sources I read was dreaming of an STi version. If the weight is low 200hp would be just fine. I know that my GTI w/200hp was plenty fast and was a hoot on the track even with FWD.

Sounds intriguing but I wonder how it will compare to the traditional 4wd models that have come to be so appreciated partly because of the all wheel drive that makes them so easy to drive fast on a rally course.

Hasn't Scion announced something very similar?

According to my friend who has been waiting for one forever there are three versions. The subie and scion versions but there's also the toyota version aka the ft86 which will be the trd version and the fastest.

Nice concept. Needs more power. This is fine for entry level for but those among us who thing that a wretched excess of tire smoking, power-sliding, ridiculous g-force on acceleration is just right - this little cutie falls short.
That direct injection 2.0 engine is capable of much, much more. GIVE ME WHAT I WANT!! GIVE US ALL WHAT WE WANT!!!! POWER! angela

I've been very interested in these... this is what i've found.
Three versions: -Toyota FT-86, japan only -Scion FR-S for US market (these two are identical save the badge) -Subie BRZ for all markets The 'yota versions have a 197hp 4cyl. No power numbers on the Subie, but rumors of a near 300hp STi version. I expect ~225-250hp from a boosted four in the base. The weight of ~2600 seems to be correct. No word on pricing. And yes, the wing is a bit much.

Magazines are reporting anywhere from $25k - $28k. Not what I'd call "cheap", but not expensive, either. Am I insane for thinking of trading my Cayman S for one? I wonder if the Subie has an intermediate shaft bearing to worry about? ![]()

I'm not totally sold on the styling, but this should be a fun car to drive.

Well that's a little disappointing, but still very good. I wonder how much options have to do with this? ..and transmission choice?
That's a great comparo. Looks like it will be smaller than the Cayman (which is about 172" long). Geez, and I thought my car was small next to a Genesis... ![]() ![]() ![]()

Saw both the Subaru and the Scion at the LA show. The one that impressed me was the Ford Focus ST, 246hp 2.0 turbo. Coming in late 2012 worldwide...
2013 Ford Focus ST | Focus ST. Experience the Thrill. | Ford.com This sounded interesting (no pun intended).. The muscular high-performance exhaust system peeks out through a central dual-pipe design at the rear of the vehicle. It’s tuned to deliver a confident growl under power. And to help make sure you hear that rumble of excitement coming from under the hood, the Focus ST is equipped with a sound symposer box. It’s designed to enrich the natural sounds of the vehicle by capturing internal engine oscillations and piping them through the interior.
